Kazakhstan airline eyes Vietnam market

Air Astana has decided to open a direct air route to Vietnam because the country is a potential market of nearly 90 million consumers, says Air Astana President Peter Foster.
VnExpress wire quoted Foster as saying with a dynamic economy and a large population, the Southeast Asian nation has great air travel demand, and Air Astana still finds room for a slice of the cake.
According to Foster, both Kazakhstan and Vietnam have developed a fine political relationship. The two countries have entered a new period of economic cooperation, especially following the Kazakhstan President’s visit to Hanoi in October 2011.
During a visit to Kazakhstan from September 9-11 by State President Truong Tan Sang, both sides agreed to launch a direct air route between Almaty city, the former capital of Kazakhstan and the nation’s largest city, and Ho Chi Minh City, the largest economic hub in Vietnam. The first flights are scheduled to take off this December.
The launch of the air route is part of Air Astana’s long-term investment strategy to promote economic, trade, and investment, as well as tourism cooperation between the two countries, said Foster.
Air Astana is rated as the best in Kazakhstan, and the first four-star airline in East Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). It will vie for market share in Vietnam, and premium quality services are the airline’s competitive advantage, said the CEO.
It plans to conduct two flights a week, carrying a total of between 80-100 passengers in the first phase. It will target Kazakh and Vietnamese tourists, entrepreneurs, and guest workers./.

Cat Ba Archipelago granted national heritage status

(CPV) - Cat Ba Archipelago in Cat Hai district, Hai Phong city, has just been ranked by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national heritage.
This is a significant event for the city, which is preparing for the National Tourism Year of Song Hong (Red River) Delta 2013. It is also the foundation for the city to submit Cat Ba – Long Chau area to UNESCO for recognition as a world natural heritage.
Earlier, the 27 member National Heritage Council met with the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO and the Hai Phong Municipal People's Committee and approved the profile to submit to UNESCO for recognition of Cat Ba – Long Chau archipelago as a World Natural Heritage area.
The council appreciated the quality, preparations and building of the profile by Hai Phong city, noting the biodiversity value as well as natural value of the Cat Ba – Long Chau Archipelago./.

Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra to open in Japan

The Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra, Vietnam National Academy of Music, including 85 artists will participate in the “Asia Orchestra Week” in Tokyo, Japan from October 1-6.
They will perform at two programs, at Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall on October 3rd and the Fukushima Concert Hall on October 5th. This is the second time the orchestra tours Japan, after the first tour in 1999.
The programme, featuring composer Do Hong Quan’s famous work Rhapsody Vietnam, will be conducted under the baton of C. Schumann (Germany).
In Fukushima, the orchestra will perform with Kyushu symphony orchestra (Japan) in a concert. Before going on tour in Japan, the Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at the Hanoi Opera House on September 27.
The concert will feature Rhapsody Vietnam. German conductor C. Schumann and artist Luu Hong Quang will also attend at the event.
“Asia Orchestra Week” is an annual event that began in 2002 to showcase the classical music cultures of Asian nations. Thirty-seven orchestras have participated from 15 different countries over the years./.
