(CPV) – The movie “Mui Co Chay” (The Scent of Burnt Grass) by director Nguyen Huu Muoi and scriptwriter Hoang Nhuan Cam has been nominated for the 85th Academy Awards in the category Best Foreign Language Film.
The film “Mui co chay” was filmed in late 2010, beating 19 others to compete at the 85th Oscars. The film tells a story of four students at Hanoi National University, namely Hoang, Thanh, Thang and Long, who joined the army during the resistance war against US aggression in 1971.
They were trained very fast and then sent to the Quang Tri ancient citadel battlefield. Three of them died in heavy fighting, only Hoang was fortunate enough to return home on Vietnam’s Reunification Day (April 30, 1975). His experience of the 81 day-and-night fighting in the citadel and Thach Han River area is unforgettable.
In Vietnam, “Mui co chay” has received a number of important awards, most recently the best film and best editor in the 2011 Golden Kite Award.
According to Director Bui Dinh Hac, Chairman of the National Council of Film Selection, “Mui co chay” is an epic which successfully illustrates the noble spirit of a young Vietnamese generation, ready to sacrifice for national freedom and independence.
Before “Mui co chay”, the films “Mua len trau” (Buffalo Boy); “Chuyen cua Pao” (Pao’s story); “Ao lua Ha Dong” (The White Silk Dress); “Dung dot” (Don’t burn) and “Khat vong Thang Long” (Thang Long Aspiration) were chosen to compete for the Oscar.
Last year, Luu Trong Ninh's “Khat Vong Thang Long” (Thang Long Aspiration) film was entered in the Best Foreign Language Film category./.
