“Although in the two “Europe meets Vietnam in Contemporary Dance” programs so far there are only three countries (Vietnam, Germany and Belgium) attending, we hope that in the future there will be more countries participating”, he added.
Following the success of the first event in 2011, the second “Europe meets Vietnam in Contemporary Dance” program is co-organised by the Goethe Institute (Germany), Wallonia-Brussels Delegation (Belgium) and Vietnam National Opera & Ballet (VNOB) within the framework of the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC).
This year's event will take place at the Hanoi Youth Theater on September 28 and 29 with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the International Cooperation Department, the Performing Arts Department, and with the effort of EUNIC.
The performance program includes a variety of contemporary dance pieces of different styles and will showcase the unique features of the diverse culture of each country.
The program will showcase three contemporary dance productions performed by dancers from Belgium, Germany and Vietnam, offering chances for spectators to understand the difference in dance traditions, themes and artistic expressions among the countries.
The dance artist Gabriella Iacono from Belgium will perform a solo piece titled “Lamento” choreographed by Michèle Anne De Mey, expressing a deep pain at the loss of a beloved.
German artists will present a performance named “Get the revolver!” choreographed by Helena Waldmann, telling the story of a woman who suffers from dementia at the end of her life and begins to slide towards the dream world.
