The recognization of national treasures
|
Vietnam has recognised a number of valuable items as national treasures after the Prime Minister approved a list of 30 individual and groups of objects representing historic regions and eras in the nation's past.
Uncle Ho’s Prison Diary
The treasures include antiques from the Dong Son Culture (700-100 BC) such as the bronze drums Ngoc Lu and Hoang Ha, and artefacts from the Tran dynasty (1226-1400).
They are currently kept at the National History Museum of Vietnam. Various historic documents have also been declared treasures, with several writings of the late President Ho Chi Minh making the list, including Duong Cach Menh (Revolutionary Road), Nhat Ky Trong Tu (Diary in Prison), a draft of The Call to All People to Join Resistance War and the original manuscript of his Testament made public in September 1969.
Some weapons deployed by the Vietnam People's Army have also been listed, including an anti-aircraft gun used during the Dien Bien Phu battle in 1954 and two of the tanks that entered the Independence Palace in Sai Gon on April 30, 1975. Before being submitted to the Government for approval in July, the objects underwent a strict qualifying round judged by the National Culture Heritage Council.

The Thien Hue, an attractive destination of foreign tourists
|
As the high season approaches, many tourism companies in Thua Thien-Hue province are actively seeking new ideas and initiatives to help lure more foreign visitors.
Thang Long City Tour, Hue Tourist, Duy Tan Travel, and DMZ Company currently cooperate to foster tourism sector’s reputation of Hue for providing services of the highest quality.
The companies have diversified their travel packages, offering tours that span visiting Tam Giang Lagoon, the central Vietnam heritage road, traditional craft villages, and other ecotourism sites.
Over the past nine months, Hue was visited by more than 1.3 million tourists, including 550,000 foreigners, representing a year-on-year increase of 11 percent. The sector earned nearly VND1,000 billion in revenue, up 25.6 percent.
Foreigners visiting Hue are primarily from France, the UK, Spain, Italy, the US, and Japan.
Travel agents are increasingly successful in attracting Asian visitors like those from Thailand and China. Thai tourists rank first among visitors to Hue from the Asian region.
The close tourism sector relationships between Mekong Delta countries endow the Thai market with a great deal of expansion potential.
In September, China organised a caravan trip for 150 visitors including reporters and representatives from travel operators and businesses. The tour wound its way through China, Laos, and Thailand before arriving in Hue.
The increasing number of visiting sea travelers is another positive sign for Thua Thien-Hue’s tourism industry.
This year, the province is expected to welcome around 25 cruise ships carrying nearly 40,000 foreigners at Chan May Port./.
