Pac Bo becomes national special relic site
A ceremony to announce Pac Bo as a national special relic site took place in northern Cao Bang province on October 6. Addressing the event, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Hoang Anh highlighted Cao Bang’s strategically important position at the northern border during wars against foreign invaders. Pac Bo was chosen by Nguyen Ai Quoc as a secret base to build up the revolutionary movement. Right here, he made a number of important decisions, contributing to the success of the 1945 August revolution, which resulted in the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. The city of Cao Bang has an area of 10,762 ha and a population of 80,400. Also on this occasion, the province announced a Government decision upgrading Cao Bang to a city under the province’s control. Pac Bo is a small village in Truong Ha Commune, Ha Quang District, 350km from Hanoi and 55km north of Cao Bang Town . It is where the T’rung and Mang Rivers meet. Suitably, Pac Bo means, “mouth of the source” The famous Coc Bo Cave is where President Ho Chi Minh stayed upon returning from 30 years abroad. At the foot of Karl Mark Mountain is Lenin Stream, which was named by President Ho Chi Minh. In Khuoi Nam, 1,000m from the Coc Bo Cavern, Ho Chi Minh presided over the 8 th session of the Indochina Communist Party (now Vietnam Communist Party) Conference in May 1941. Even now, this location remains a sacred place for the Vietnamese. Endowed with beautiful mountains and rivers, Pac Bo is quickly developing into a popular tourist area./.

Preserving Hanoi by promoting the community role
Many professors, doctors, scientists, managers and cultural researchers have participated in a seminar on promoting the role of community in preserving the cultural heritage of Thang Long – Hanoi. The event was held by the Thang Long – Hanoi Culture Heritage Association on October 7th. There are 5,175 historical and cultural relics in 29 districts and towns in Hanoi. 1,165 relics were recognized as national heritages and 1,000 relics were recognized by the city. There are more 260 revolutionary relics and nearly 300 relics and places relating to President Ho Chi Minh. Especially, the Thang Long royal citadel was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Participants at the seminar agreed that the management of authorities plays an important role, but the more important role in protecting the sites is that of the community, tourists and local people. According to the Thang Long – Hanoi cultural heritage association, the community has contributed up to 70% of investment and preservation costs. Thang Long – Hanoi traditional cultural heritage includes both village and urban forms. Village culture is specific to the Vietnamese nationality, while Hanoi is the capital with its own urban culture, said Luu Minh Tri, president of Thang Long – Hanoi cultural heritage association. Participants contributed ideas to promote the role of community in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritages./.
