France will host ‘Du fleuve Rouge au Mékong' exhibition

VietNamNet Bridge – An exhibition titled ‘Du fleuve Rouge au Mékong, visions du Vietnam’ (From the Red River to the Mekong, Visions of Vietnam) featuring Vietnamese and French artworks is being held at the Cernuschi Museum in Paris from September 21, 2012 to January 27, 2013.
The event presents to viewers artworks of well-known Vietnamese veteran painters who graduated from the Indochina College of Fine Arts (now Hanoi University of Fine Arts) like Le Pho, Le Van De, Nguyen Phan Chanh, George Khanh, Mai Trung Thu, Vu Cao Dam, To Ngoc Van, Vu Tien Chuc, Le Thi Luu, Nguyen Gia Tri, Tran Van Can, Luong Xuan Nhi, Luu Van Sin and Ton That Da.
There are also artworks by French artists who came to Vietnam namely Gaston Roullet, Louis Rollet, Jules Galand, André Delacroix, Joseph Inguimberty, Alix Aymém, André Maire, Henri Dabadie, Charles Fouqueray, Francois de Marliave, Géo Michel, Jonchère Évariste, Lucien Lievre and Louis Bâte.
79 artworks in various mediums such as oil, silk, lacquer, watercolor, bronze, and pottery introduce visitors to the beauty of the Vietnamese landscape and people in the past.

Huong River divers find treasure trove of antiquities

VietNamNet Bridge – Over three decades ago, a scrap merchant got an "amazingly" high price for a ceramic item he found on the bed of the Huong (Perfume) River in the former imperial city of Hue.
Since then, several divers joined the business of searching for antiques on the riverbed, and many precious items have been found.
Nguyen Van Can and Pham Van Thuan are among these antique seekers, and both of them have over 20 years of experience on the job.
They say the Huong River is over 100km long but the antiques are to be found on a 20km stretch in the lower reaches that run from Long Tho Hill to the Thuan An Estuary.
Different sections of this stretch hold different groups of antiques, they say.
Ancient stones and weapons have been found in front of the well-known Thien Mu Pagoda while the next section – from Kim Long Village to the area in front of the Hue Citadel – has released old bowls and dishes, jewellery and coins.
From the Phu Xuan Bridge to a tributary of the Dong Ba River branch, a section holds a lot of military equipment and weapons from the former US-backed Sai Gon regime.
The section to the south of Hen (Oyster) Islet keeps a lot of mushroom-shaped lime-pots of the former Champa civilisation, while another that runs from the Bai Dau area to the Sinh Crossroads has a lot of Vietnamese Chu Dau, Chinese and Champa ceramic wares of different types.
Researcher Ho Tan Phan, who has a big collection of antiques lifted from the bed of the Huong river, says the "allocation" of different kinds of antiques to different sections of the river is testimony to a "very special" cultural phenomenon in Hue.
He says many more studies need to be carried out to discover and clarify many cultural and historical aspects of the ancient city of Hue in particular and of Viet Nam in general.

Discovered Bottomless lakes in Phong Nha

VietNamNet Bridge - Two lakes of "great mystery" are located about 500 meters from each other in the Phong Nha Cave. Experts could not reach the bottom of the lakes, although they used modern diving equipment and wires to measure their depth.

Director of the Center for Phong Nha - Ke Bang Ecotourism and Culture, Quang Binh province, said the center’s survey team and cave experts have discovered two lakes on the tourist route "Phong Nha Cave - discovering 1,500 meters of mystery." .
The first lake is about 70 m2 and the remaining lake is more than 300 m2. The lake is calm as a mirror. The water is cool and blue. Surveying the first lake, experts were surprised because the lake seems to have no bottom.
Experts could not reach the bottom of the lake, although they used modern diving equipment and wires to measure the bottom. As usual, the survey team decided to name the first lake Xuyen Son Ho.
This is the second discovery in a short period of time after the color-changing stalactite in July, once again it is confirmed that Phong Nha Cave is the top cave with seven outstanding criteria: the cave with the tallest and widest entrance, cave with the most beautiful sandy ground and reef, cave having the most beautiful underground river, cave with the the most magical and magnificent stalactites, cave with high and wide caves, cave with deep and beautiful underground lakes and cave with the longest water cave.
On October 1, the Centre for Phong Nha - Ke Bang Ecological and Cultural Tourism launched the tour to Xueyn Son Ho Lake and held a contest to name the lake of more than 300 m2.
