Over the country welcome Mid - Autumn festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival on August 15 of the lunar calendar, falls on September 30 this year, and a diverse range of celebrations have been held nationwide on this occasion. At the National hospital of Pediatrics in Hanoi, volunteers has organised a music performance programme in the hope of easing the suffering and bringing joy to more than 1,300 child patients who are under treatment here. Since early morning, volunteers had arrived at the hospital. They made star-shaped lanterns and brought gift to the children. Hundreds of patient children and their relatives joined in singing and dance during the programme. In the northern province of Tuyen Quang, a big event was held on September 29 night in Tuyen Quang City. The city has been holding a street festival on this occasion each autumn, with the enthusiastic participation of communities, schools and businesses. On the occasion, the Vietnam Guinness Organisation awarded a certificate to Tuyen Quang city for its record of the biggest and unique lanterns in the country. The same day, a programme named “Full moon festival” took place in the central city of Da Nang. At the event, children in the city heard the mid-autumn message from the President, enjoyed arts performance and joined traditional games. On the occasion, the organisers presented 400 gifts and scholarships to poor pupils in the city. On the island of Ly Son in the central province of Quang Ngai, more than 1000 children, including disadvantaged and disabled kids and Agent organge/dioxin victims, were invited to a celebration of the mid-autumn festival. The event was jointly organised by the Vietnam Association for Protection of Children’s Rights, the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Welfare and the provincial People’s Committee. The organisers gave more than 700 scholarships and 1,300 gifts to children living in the island. The Vietnamese Embassies in Laos and Russia also held get-togethers for children of overseas Vietnamese, completed with all the traditional activities such as lantern parade, dragon dance and folk games.
