VietNamNet Bridge – October sets a new record in the number of movies that will be released at local cinemas, including notable works such as “Scandal”, “Taken 2”, “Hotel Transylvania” or “Upside Down”.
1. Taken 2

The next part of the famous action movie played by actor Liam Neeson is the opening work at Vietnamese theaters this month. The scene of “Taken 2” is set two years after Kim was kidnapped in Paris in the first part, during the trip to Istanbul (Turkey), Bryan Mills was surprised to see his wife and daughter to visit. Family reunion is not long when Lenore, Bryan’s wife, who was kidnapped for revenge by the gang of boss Murad - who masterminded the kidnapping of Kim in Paris and is the father of a criminal shot by Bryan in the first part.
With the skills of an excellent CIA agent, Bryan Hills again has to find ways to combat the dangerous Albanian criminal group to protect his family. This time, however, he is not alone, but also has a great help from Kim’s daughter.
2. Street Dance 2 3D

On this journey, he meets and falls in love with a beautiful salsa dancer Eva in Paris.
3. The Concubine

As a new Korean film of this year, The Concubine tells the story happenning in the Joseon Dynasty. Shin Hwa-yeon, daughter of a military general, was forced to become a concubine of Prince Seo-won. However, she falls in love with Kwon-yoo, her childhood friend. Becoming a concubine, Hwa-yeon is torn between the love with two men.
4. Dangerous Liaisons

The movie is adapted from the novel “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” by French writer Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, which was first published in 1782.
“Dangerous Liaisons” is a Chinese film, starring by Zhang Ziyi, Cecilia Cheung and Korean actor Jang Dong-gun.
The movie features a Shanghai (China) in 1930. The three main characters all take a pain of love but they have their own plots. They plunge into the sexual relationships which are very dangerous and complicated.
5. Scandal - Secrets of Red Carpet

“Scandal” is the latest film directed by Victor Vu. This work is about the showbiz world, focusing on two girls named Y Linh and Tra My, who desire to become top stars of the entertainment world.
Both of them try to find ways to work up the ladder of fame by catching the eye of powerful entertainment mogul.
Two beautiful actresses Van Trang and Maya become rivals in “Scandal”. The film portrays the corner under the bright lights and fame of the showbiz. This movie is expected to be a unique work of Vietnamese films this year.
6. The Thieves

Having the same topic as Hollywood's “Ocean's Eleven”, “The Thieves” of South Korea is about the confrontation of the two groups of "super thieves" from Korea and China in competing for the diamond “Tear of the Sun”.
Jun Ji-Hyun plays a beautiful, sexy and edgy thief. “The Thieves” also has the participation of many Korean celebrities as Kim Hye-soo, Lee Jung-jae and Kim Yoon-seok.
7. LOL

Lola’s mother who encountered a similar circumstance when she was abandoned by her husband now wants to interject in his daughter's love. Gentle and humorous stories about the mother and her daughter and the difference between the two generations are the main themes of LOL. Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore play the mother and the daughter, while Ashley Greene plays a bad girl at Lola’s high school.
8. 3D Frankenweenie

But when the bolt-necked "monster" wreaks havoc and terror in the hearts of Victor's neighbors, he has to convince them (and his parents) that despite his appearance, Sparky's still the good loyal friend he's always been.
Frankenweenie is a black and white cartoon, in the peculiar style of Tim Burton. The producers expect that it would be nominated as the Best Animated Film of the 2013 Oscar Award.
9. Alex Cross

The movie also has the participation of actor Matthew Fox - who was known by the Vietnamese audience for the TV series “Lost”.
10. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

After Ek Tha Tiger and Cocktails in September, Vietnamese audiences will continue to enjoy another Bollywood movie – “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”.
The movie is a Bollywood version of “The Hangover”, the film about three friends - Arjun, Imraan and Kabir. To celebrate the bachelor party before Kabir get married, they go to Spain, where they meet with young girl Laila, who falls in love with Arjun.
But the trip around Spain is not as smooth as they originally thought. Many half-laughing,half-crying circumstances happened and pushed the three guys on a trip of a lifetime.
“Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” has won 16 awards, including the best script award from the Council of Indian Films.
11. Hotel Transylvania 3D

The sudden appearance of Jonathan makes the hotel upside down. Dracula must stop the love affair between Jonathan and vampire Mavis before it's too late. The film is based on the legend of Dracula but it is humorous and funny.
12. The Grand Heist

The audience people who like Korean actor Cha Tae-hyun will see him again in the movie “The Grand Heist” this month. The film sets in the Joseon Dynasty when ice is a symbol of wealth and worth more than gold. The main character Lee Duk-moo is the son of the second Prince, who is falsely accused and detained in prison together with a loyal mandarin who is in charge of the royal ice box. Knowing that someone is trying to harm him, Duk-moo plans to rob the ice warehouse with the help of nine professional thieves.
13. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

With a budget of $ 14 million, “The Possession” has grossed $65.4 million and ranked in the top 10 films in North American in the two consecutive weeks of August.
15. Masquerade

Masquerade is the fourth Korean film released in Vietnam this month and also gets a historical context. It is about a commoner who suddenly replaces King Gwang-hae, who is facing the danger of being deposed and dethroned. The film is about the 15 days missing of this king with many mysteries. Actor Lee Byung-hun plays two roles, both as the commoner and King Gwang-hae.
16. Upside Down

List of 11 national relics in Vietnam

VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam has named 11 more national relics recently, bringing the total number to 34.
This is the third time Vietnam has announced more special national relics since August 2009.
Yen Tu historical sites in Quang Ninh Province.
The 11 relics include the Co Loa historical, architectural and archaeological heritage in Hanoi; the historical Tran Dynasty temple and Pho Minh Pagoda in Nam Dinh Province; Bach Dang and Yen Tu historical sites in Quang Ninh Province; Lam Kinh historical relic in Thanh Hoa Province; Nguyen Du memorial in Ha Tinh Province; Keo Pagoda in Thai Binh Province; Oc Eo-Ba The ancient archeological relic in An Giang Province; Go Thap historical and archaeological relic in Dong Thap Province; Ba Be Lake in Bac Kan and Cat Tien National Park in Dong Nai Province; and Binh Phuoc and Lam Dong.
The Prime Minister has directed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and local people’s committees will be responsible for management and protection under the law of all the national cultural heritage sites.
Relic sites will be verified and documented as protected areas via maps and documentations.
In related news, the UNESCO World Heritage Institute at Waseda University in Japan will be funding the restoration of the temple of Princess Dien Phuoc, sister of King Tu Duc, who was the fourth emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty from 1847–1883, in the ancient imperial city of Hue in central Vietnam.
The fund will provide VND2.2 billion (US$110,000) to restore the relic structure which is scheduled to complete by November 2013.

Vietnamese - born French show at Paris fashion week

VietNamNet Bridge – Barbara Bui has released her latest collection during Paris Fashion Week, combining the stylistic modernity of both Eastern and Western culture.
Barbara Bui was born in Paris, France, in 1957, to a Vietnamese father and French mother. She graduated from the Faculty of Literature at the Sorbonne University in Paris.
She opened her first Paris fashion shop in 1983. Four years later she departed for New York with the aim of advancing her brand in the international fashion arena.
According to the French edition of Vogue, her 2013 Autumn-Winter collection exhibits a diversity of cultural values.
