Pictures drawn by street children in Ho Chi Minh City are being exhibited in Arcueil City in the eastern suburb of Paris. They reflect their views of life, land, people, natural scenery, family and school. The mayor of Arcueil city attending the opening ceremony of the exhibition. (Photo: VOV) The exhibition, co-organized by the Arcueil and HCM City Solidarity and Friendship Association (AHSFA) and the Vietnamese People Association in France, aims to introduce and sell pictures to raise funds for disadvantaged children at the “Tre Xanh” Centre in HCM City. Daniel Breuiller, Mayor of Arcueil City, spoke highly of the initiative to organize the exhibition and expressed his hope that young painters will further promote their drawing talent. Daniel, who is also AHSFA President, said since 2008 the association has granted scholarships to children at the “Tre Xanh” centre who want to go to school and learn French to work at hotels, restaurants or travel agents. The organizing board said more than 10 pictures were sold at 50-100 euro each at the opening ceremony on October 23. The exhibition will be open until October 26. A similar event will be held in Arcueil City from November 29 - December 1.

Vietnam welcomes Oscar nominees
VietNamNet Bridge - Unlike the previous years, many brilliant films in the race to the Oscars Award 2012 will be screened very early at Vietnamese cinemas. A scene from "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey". Last year, of the list of 10 films nominated for the Oscar Award 2011’s best film category, Vietnamese audience people could enjoy only two at cinemas - "The Help" and "The Tree of Life" - because they were released in the summer, months before the award ceremony. A few months after the awards ceremony, the audience had an opportunity to watch a few more films in the list thanks to the Megastar Picks program of the film distributor Megastar, including "The Descendants" and "The Artist". But this year the situation is slightly different when great films by well-known directors, which are praised by critics as promising nominees for the Oscars Award 2012 are on the way to Vietnam. The most notable movie is "Django Unchained" by Quentin Tarantino, who is known for "Inglourious Basterds," "Kill Bill", "Pulp Fiction," etc. This movie has the presence of stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson and Jonah Hill. Leonardo DiCaprio in "Django Unchained". Other movies that will be introduced in Vietnam are also strong rivals at the Oscar Award 2012: the blockbuster "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" by Peter Jackson, the start of a series of three films with the total rumored cost of $1 billion; the musical film "Les Miserables" by Tom Hooper and the 3D movie "Life of Pi" by Ang Lee. The common thing of these films is the mix between art and commercial factors. The 85th Oscars Award will take place on February 24 and will be televised live on ABC. Comedian Seth MacFarlane will be the host, as announced by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science.
