VietNamNet Bridge – Two of the three artifacts that were nominated by Bac Ninh province for the government’s recognition as national treasures have been officially listed as national treasures.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Nhat, Director of the Relic Management Board of Bac Ninh province, said that the list of the national treasures, phase 1 has recently issued, signed by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan. The list includes 30 antiques, with two ancient statues from Bac Ninh province: the statue of Guanyin with thousand eyes and thousand hands (Le Trung Hung dynasty, at But Thap Pagoda, Thuan Thanh District) and the statue of Amitabha Buddha (Ly dynasty, at Phat Tich Pagoda, Tien Du district).
Earlier, Bac Ninh province nominated three antiques, include the two above antiques and the stone pillar at Dam Pagoda in Bac Ninh city.
The Guanyin statue was made by a sculptor named Truong in 1656. The statue is 3.7 m high, the farthest arm length of 200 cm. The statue has 11 heads, 42 big hands and 952 hands of different lengths. The dragon head carries a lotus of 30 cm high; the pedestal is 54 cm high. This is considered a unique masterpiece of Buddha statue and the statuary art, which highlights Buddhist philosophy by the visual arts.
The statue of Amitabha Buddha at Phat Tich temple is made by stone. According to historical documents, this statue was created in 1057. This statue is the most ancient Buddha statue of Vietnam. It is 1.86 m high and 2.69 m high with pedestal.

Of the five Buddhist treasures that are recognized as national treasures in the first phase, in addition to the above statues, three other treasures are preserved at the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum and the Museum of Cham Sculpture in Da Nang, including: Dong Duong Buddha statue, statue of Tara Bodhisattva Guanyin and My Loi Buddha statue.
