Monk proposed for UNESCO honour
|
The Quang Ninh provincial authorities have said they will submit a profile of King-Monk Tran Nhan Tong (1258-1308) to UNESCO for recognition as a Great Man of Culture.
Documents on Tran dynasty (1225-1400) relics in Dong Trieu District and the tourist site Yen Tu Mountain in Uong Bi District will also be sent to the UNE cultural agency to be considered for world cultural heritage status.
Experts have also called for seeking world intangible cultural heritage status for the Truc Lam (Bamboo Forest) Zen Monastery.
Tran Nhan Tong, the third Tran king, ascended to the throne at just 21 and achieved fame for defeating Yuan-Mongol invaders twice during his 14-year reign.
He abdicated at the age of 35 and spent the rest of his life on Yen Tu Mountain practising and teaching Buddhism, and founding the Truc Lam Zen Monastery

Grammy winner arrives in Vietnam
|
VietNamNet Bridge - Famous singer Monica Denise Brown arrived at the Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi at 10pm, September 5. She comes to Hanoi to perform at the Hennessy Concert, scheduled to take place at My Dinh National Convention Centre on September 7.
She will share the stage with Japanese rock band, Okamoto, and young Vietnamese singer Phuong Vy, who won the 2007 Vietnam Idol 2007 competition.
Monica, born in 1980, is an American singer, songwriter, and occasional actress. Her first album “Miss Thang” was released in 1995 and became a top hit on the US Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart.
Monica’s second album, “The Boy Is Mine,” earned her an international reputation and helped her win a Grammy Award.
In 2003, her album “After the Storm” was number one on the Billboard Top 200 list, and “The Makings of Me” debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart.
Monica’s recent album, “Still Standing,” is a number one hit that earned her a nomination for the best female R&B singer at the Grammy Awards.

The beauty of Hoang Su Phi’s terraced fields

VietNamNet Bridge - Hoang Su Phi’s terraced fields will be recognized as a national relic on September 16. On these days, terraced fields have turned yellow.
Terraced fields are a popular cultivated form in Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and some southern provinces of China.
In Vietnam, a terraced field is the production form of many ethnic groups in northern mountainous region like La Chi, Ha Nhi, Mong, Dao or Nung.
In Ha Giang province, terraced fields are mainly located in western districts. Researchers said that terraced fields appeared in Hoang Su Phi several centuries ago.
Terraced fields in the communes of Phung, Luoc, San Sa Ho, Ho Thau, Nam Ty and Thong Nguyen have become the pride of Hoang Su Phi.
Hoang Su Phi terraced fields will be recognized as national relic on September 16, 2012.
Hoang Su Phi district is around 110km from Ha Giang city.
The district is on the upstream of Chay River, the largest and oldest river in the region. Let’s admire the beauty of rice harvest season in Hoang Su Phi.
