Real life of delta via Duong Sen’s brush
|
A visitor takes photos of Duong Sen’s paintings at the HCMC Association of Fine Arts in District 3 - Photo: My Tran
‘Nature and People’ solo exhibition by artist Duong Sen yesterday opened at the HCMC Association of Fine Arts, taking visitors on a tour of daily life and landscapes of Mekong Delta.
The exhibition features oil on canvas pieces, of which most depict landscapes of the delta with some portraits of local ladies and one self-portrait. Works are inspired from his journeys to the delta, so they are filled of real emotions, real-like scenery and authentic colors of the water land.
Highlights are wooden stilt houses on river banks with dotted images of women weaving, cooking, washing or taking care of their kids and images of romantic men playing guitars and crooning folk songs. “I sense the real life of the delta is happening in front of my eyes as paintings with houses, bridges, wharfs, boats, trees and even people in old clothes look so real,” said Thang Long, a visitor to the exhibition.
Born in Nghe An Province and graduating from HCMC University of Fine Arts in 1983, Sen is famous for lacquer but in recent years, he has moved to oil.
He is also a veteran of art depicting war and soldiers and is an award-winner who has given solo and group exhibitions nationwide and in the U.S., Taiwan and Germany.
The show runs to September 15 at the association, 218A Pasteur Street in District 3.
