Cham cultural festival in Ninh Thuan

(TITC) - From 14 to 16 October 2012, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ninh Thuan Province will hold the culture, sports and tourism festival of Cham ethnic group with the theme “Cham culture – preservation, promotion and integration” in 4 locations of Ninh Thuan Province, including Po Klong Garai Tower tourist area (Phan Rang-Thap Cham City), Huu Duc Commune’s stadium, My Nghiep brocade weaving village and Bau Truc pottery village (Ninh Phuoc District).
The festival attracts the participations of provinces and cities where Cham people live such as Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Phu Yen, An Giang, Tay Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City and localities having typical Cham cultural heritage such as Khanh Hoa, Quang Nam, Da Nang.
The opening ceremony of the festival will take place on the New Year’s eve on Cham calendar (14 October) to introduce panorama of Cham culture as well as culture of ethnic groups in the country.
In framework of the festival, many attractive culture, sports activities will also be held such as: photo exhibition on Vietnamese ethnic groups; introduction about culinary culture of Cham ethnic people; fair - exhibition “Cham culture-economy on the way of integration”; introduction of books on Cham culture; performances of arts and Cham traditional costumes; sports contests (football, volleyball, marathon, day gay (pushing sticks), carrying Cham water pot on heads…); contest of brocade weaving…especially a workshop on conservation and development of Cham culture (16 October) with the participations of Cham cultural researchers, scientists, managers to assess the situation of Cham culture and exploit Cham cultural values for tourism development.
To attract more tourists to Ninh Thuan, during the festival, People's Committee of Ninh Thuan Province will cooperate with travel agencies, hotels, restaurants to welcome visitors, develop tours to typical tourist attractions such as: Poklong Garai Tower, Bau Truc pottery village, some famous wine grapes’ manufacturers…
Cham ethnic people live mainly in 3 provinces of Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, An Giang and scattered in provinces from South Central to West South and East South region. Cham culture contains many unique factors expressed through more than 100 festivals held all year around. Therefore, preservation and promotion of Cham culture plays a very important role.
The culture, sports and tourism festival of Cham ethnic group 2012 is an opportunity to promote and honor cultural characteristics of Cham people and also an occasion for artisans, artists in the whole country to meet, learn and exchange experiences in the culture preservation and promotion of Cham people.

CM City the convergent point of tourism promoters

Travel agencies in HCMC during this week will be busy with a series of programs to promote tourism and introduce products among local and foreign tour operators.
A number of programs are hosted in coincidence with the Travel Expo HCMC 2012 (ITE HCMC) from Thursday to Saturday.
Tomorrow India will kick off its tourism promotions in the city with road shows introducing the country’s tourism at the Sofitel Saigon Plaza followed by the Cambodian night on Thursday. In addition, local tourism promotion agencies from Haiphong, Khanh Hoa or Binh Phuoc will also organize scores of other events in HCMC to promote images, events and new products of their localities.
The city has become the focus of tourism marketing activities as the number of agencies engaged in international travel here makes up nearly a half of the total number of tourism companies nationwide. Up to 435 foreign tour operators and 324 domestic ones are present in HCMC, with most of the country’s leading enterprises based in the city.
The number of foreign arrivals to the city accounts for about 58% of the total while the number of domestic visitors of the city also grows by 20-30% annually.
A lot of tourism firms in HCMC have become the major ones to take travelers to other provinces. According to the departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong and Binh Thuan provinces, the majority of visitors to their localities are handled by city-based tourism companies. In Lam Dong alone, the number of visitors handled by travel agencies in HCMC amount to up to 45% of the total.

Pe Luong – a destination to experience Thai culture
|
(TITC) - Homestay tourism in Pe Luong Village, Thanh Luong Commune, Dien Bien District, Dien Bien Province is exciting for tourists to discover spectacular Northwestern scenery and specific Thai cultural characteristics.
Pe Luong has the area of 25ha, about 20km to the west of Dien Bien Phu City. According to Thai language, Pe Luong means solidarity and development. With this mean, Thai people have lived in Pe Luong for many generations and developed into a village with about 100 households living mainly by planting and breeding, weaving traditional brocade. Attractiveness of Thai culture here is expressed evidently through architecture of stilts houses, traditional costumes, festivals, cuisine and sacrificial ritual in family.
Along with unique Thai cultural values, Pe Luong Village also has beautiful scenery with mountain and lake. Of which, Pe Luong Lake is a destination which has many potentialities to develop eco and leisure tourism and attracts a large number of tourists every year. In 2001, Pe Luong Village was recognized as a tourism culture village at provincial level.
With these strengths, Pe Luong villagers have pushed efforts to develop tourism, especially community-based tourism to create opportunity for tourists to experience life of local people; contribute to preserving and promoting traditional cultural identity of Thai people as well as improving villagers’ living conditions. So far, the village has 10 households providing community-based tourism services. In addition, to make deep impression with visitors, Pe Luong Village also established an art team to perform Thai dances and songs for tourists in the cultural stilt house; sell traditional brocade products with various designs; build restaurants serving local cuisine.
