Hanoi with tourism promotion in Asia
|
VietNamNet Bridge – The 11th annual meeting of the Council for Promoting Tourism in Asia (CPTA) opened in Hanoi on October 10.
It brought together all CPTA member cities, namely Hanoi (Vietnam), Tokyo (Japan), New Delhi (India), Seoul (the Republic of Korea), Taipei (Taiwan, China), Jakarta (Indonesia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Bangkok (Thailand).
The two observer cities Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) and Tomsk (Russia) also attended.
During the three-day meeting, delegates will evaluate the initiatives implemented over the past year and devise plans for new projects.
They will outline the responsibilities of state tourism management agencies and municipal governments, as well as tourism agencies and businesses, toward developing the tourism sector in CPTA member cities.
The event is expected to offer opportunities for strengthening cooperation and mutual understandings about tourism between Hanoi and other members of the CPTA.
At the opening ceremony, Acting Chairman of the CPTA Masahiko Hosaka confirmed that the global tourism market is facing many difficulties as a consequence of the current economic downturn.
He noted Asia’s tourism potential remains great and the number of visitors to the region is increasing. Hosaka stressed the importance of inter-city cooperation for the promotion of tourism development.
An area including 40 stalls exhibiting positive images of each CPTA member city is also organised within the framework of the meeting.
As the host, Hanoi will run surveys on October 12 to demonstrate and inform the CPTA delegations about its own unique cultural heritage and tourism products.
This is the third time Hanoi has hosted the regional meeting.

Hue image in the rain
|
VietNamNet Bridge – The rain often makes you nostalgic with either the blues or happy memories. Rain makes the scenery more romantic and green, especially in sites of ancient works and historical plots like Hue City. Local authorities in Thua Thien-Hue Province have offered many tourism products during the rainy season this month.
A view of Ngo Mon Gate in Hue Imperial Citadel.
This is a new, attractive bid to lure visitors who are looking for a more real and romantic experience. The product ‘Hue’s rain’ from the workshop ‘Building brand names for Hue’s tourism’ was started in February. Therefore, tourists will be invited to join tours to the landscapes of Hue Imperial City, walking under the rain on shaded roads.
Authorities will erect installation artworks, souvenir shops, fine arts and craft villages on those roads to cater for the visitors.
Moreover, tourists will be taken on Hue-style tourist vehicles such as the cyclo and dragon boats with equipment to protect tourists from rain and help them to admire the surroundings.
Moreover, restaurants will serve food for the rainy season, especially grilled dishes. Tourist agencies will collaborate with cabarets to entertain guests with traditional music shows, so tourists can sense the romance of the raindrops, sip tea and listen to folk melodies.
Recognized as a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO, the former Hue Imperial Citadel built by the Nguyen Dynasty from 1805-1945 is one of the must-see destinations for those who take a trip through to the central coast.
The citadel compound is located on the north bank of the Huong (perfume) River, comprising three rings of ramparts: Hue Capital Citadel, Royal Citadel and Forbidden Citadel. The original look of the outer ring has amazingly remained intact with nearly 140 small and large constructions. Inside the second ring is the Royal Citadel with brick walls four meters high and one meter thick. There is also a trench system circling the citadel.
The citadel consists of more than 100 fascinating architectural works, with the most striking being the Noon Gate and the Thai Hoa Palace.
Inside the Imperial Citadel complex and behind the Throne Palace, the Forbidden Citadel was erected for the Emperor and his family. The whole site consists of about 50 architectural constructions of different sizes and seven gates.

VietNamNet Bridge – The Ha Noi tourism sector had a role to play in assisting northern Bac Giang and Lang Son provinces train hospitality workers and enhance service, a workshop was told on Sunday, Oct 7.

in the northern province of Bac Giang introduces a sample in the collection
of over 3,000 woodblocks carved by Buddhist Sutras in the early 14th century.
Bac Giang Deputy Chairman Nguyen Van Linh said tourism development was among five key socio-economic programmes in the province.
Bac Giang was a "greenhorn" among the likes of Ha Noi and Lang Son, though it was endowed with beautiful landscapes, like Khuon Than Lake, Cam Son Lake and rainforests in Khe Go and west of Yen Tu range, Linh said.
Ha Noi tourism department vice director Truong Minh Tien said Bac Giang had potential and could offer a visit to the Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, an over-1,000-year-old building housing a collection of 3,000 wood blocks carved by Buddhist Sutras in the 14th century, which had received World Documentary Heritage status by UNESCO.
There were also eco-tourism routes to Khe Go forest, Mo Streamline and Khuon Than Lake, Tien said adding it was feasible for Ha Noi to co-operate with Bac Giang to promote tours.
Lang Son culture department vice director Be Thi Thu Hien said co-operation among localities in developing tourism was essential.
Ha Noi is the centre of economy, culture, science and technology; Bac Giang is in the midlands between plains and mountainous areas; Lang Son is a northern mountainous border area with various tourism sites and border gates to China and other ASEAN countries.
Hien stressed the need for the three localities to figure out which areas to co-operate in development tourism products and infrastructure.
A representative from the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism said the three localities should focus on key sites to attract investment in facilities friendly with the environment and to promote local ethnic features.
The localities were also advised to modernise roads.
The workshop, which was held in Bac Giang on Sunday, gathered dozens of participants working in tourism in the three localities.
