Upon operating this route, Etihad Airways would become the third Middle East carrier to offer flights to Vietnam. Currently, Qatar Airways is operating flights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City via Bangkok, and Emirates Airlines also operates nonstop flights between Dubai and Ho Chi Minh City.
Earlier, Etihad Airways inked a codeshare partnership with Vietnam Airlines in order to sell tickets to both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City via Bangkok through Vietnam Airlines.
The upcoming air route will help bring Vietnam and the UAE closer, as well as open up economic opportunities and boost trade, tourism, culture, energy, infrastructure, and civil construction in both nations.
In the Southeast Asia region, Ho Chi Minh City is the sixth direct flight destination of Etihad Airways, after Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and Singapore.
“In the future, we will set up a representative office in Vietnam, creating a professional marketing staff to link with travel agencies and cargo services companies. We do hope to bring happiness and comfortable moments for passengers from Europe, the Middle East and the overseas Vietnamese communities during their holidays”, said Mr James Hogan.
The carrier is also considering opening another air route from Hanoi to the UAE.
Up to now, the investment of UAE in Vietnam stands at more than USD 3 billion and bilateral trade at around USD 1.3 billion./.

“Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu in the air” has been launched
|
The Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union has launched a contest on the 12-day battle “Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu in the air”.
The victory forced the US to sign the Paris Agreement in 1973, and totally withdraw their forces from South Vietnam, leading to the liberation of Saigon and national reunification two years later.
Five questions of the contest focus on the context, happenings, results, reasons and significance of the victory, and what the present young generation should do to preserve and promote the spirit of the victory in the cause of building and protecting the Vietnam Socialist Republic.
The organizing board of the contest will provide necessary information on several newspapers, the website of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and other mass media from October 2012.
Writings are to be sent to offices of provincial and city Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Unions where candidates are living. Overseas Vietnamese and foreigners who are living, studying and working in Vietnam can send their writings to the Department of Popularization and Education under the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union at 62 Ba Trieu Street, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi.
Writings can be sent from November 1st to 25th 2012.
The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on the 40th anniversary of the victory “Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu on the air” in December 2012.
In addition, a publication compiling poems and short stories about the victory by Hanoi poets and writers will be released as part of the celebration. Exhibitions showcasing objects and documents related to the battle will be held in the Air Force Museum (171 Truong Chinh Street), the Museum of the Victory over B-52s (157 Doi Can Street), and the Vietnam Military History Museum (28A Dien Bien Phu Street). And workshops on the battle will also be held in November and December, gathering hundreds of scholars, historians and researchers./.
