Pe Luong – a destination to experience Thai culture
|
(TITC) - Homestay tourism in Pe Luong Village, Thanh Luong Commune, Dien Bien District, Dien Bien Province is exciting for tourists to discover spectacular Northwestern scenery and specific Thai cultural characteristics.
Pe Luong has the area of 25ha, about 20km to the west of Dien Bien Phu City. According to Thai language, Pe Luong means solidarity and development. With this mean, Thai people have lived in Pe Luong for many generations and developed into a village with about 100 households living mainly by planting and breeding, weaving traditional brocade. Attractiveness of Thai culture here is expressed evidently through architecture of stilts houses, traditional costumes, festivals, cuisine and sacrificial ritual in family.
Along with unique Thai cultural values, Pe Luong Village also has beautiful scenery with mountain and lake. Of which, Pe Luong Lake is a destination which has many potentialities to develop eco and leisure tourism and attracts a large number of tourists every year. In 2001, Pe Luong Village was recognized as a tourism culture village at provincial level.
With these strengths, Pe Luong villagers have pushed efforts to develop tourism, especially community-based tourism to create opportunity for tourists to experience life of local people; contribute to preserving and promoting traditional cultural identity of Thai people as well as improving villagers’ living conditions. So far, the village has 10 households providing community-based tourism services. In addition, to make deep impression with visitors, Pe Luong Village also established an art team to perform Thai dances and songs for tourists in the cultural stilt house; sell traditional brocade products with various designs; build restaurants serving local cuisine.
Community-based tourism in Pe Luong changed local people’s awareness of preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values, as well as enriched community-based tourism destinations in Dien Bien Province.

ASEAN nations promote tourism in city
|
Vietnam and its ASEAN neighbors Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar will introduce their tourism products to 200 international customers on September 13-15 at the International Travel Expo HCMC 2012.
According to organizers, Cambodia and Myanmar will introduce their heritage tourism products, while the products of Vietnam and Laos focus on sea tourism and ecotourism respectively. The four countries will bring to the expo their typical products and jointly promote to attract international tourists.
Nguyen Van Tuan, general director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), said at a press conference in HCMC on Thursday that the tourism ministers of the four countries would meet at the expo to discuss tourism cooperation.
After that, mayors of cities in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, including Phnom Penh, Vientiane, Yangon, Bangkok and HCMC, will also meet in the city and promote tourism cooperation between the four countries and the Mekong Sub-region with specific activities to create competitiveness in the area.
“Through previous travel expos, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar have had several joint tourism promotion programs. But now we want to expand the scale and cooperate with countries of the Mekong Sub-region to create a greater competitiveness,” said Tuan.
The expo will take place at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center in District 7 from Thursday until next Saturday.
According to organizers, the expo will feature 233 booths of travel firms and hotels from 19 nations and 26 local tourism promotion agencies. Around 200 customers from 33 markets will buy international tourism services and meet partners at the expo.

Exhibition features Trang An tourism complex
|
Over 1,000 objects, documents and photos on Trang An Tourism Complex in the northern province of Ninh Binh are being displayed at an exhibition that opened on September 12.
The three-day exhibition, organised by the Ninh Binh Department for Culture, Sports and Tourism, looks to seek support from experts, international organisations and UNESCO member countries for Trang An to soon be recognised as a world heritage.
Such objects as working tools, made of stones, bones and shells, earthenware and jewel articles dating from the 10 th century provide visitors an insight into the life of people habited in the area in ancient time.
Dubbed "Ha Long Bay on land", the Trang An tourism complex covers an area of 10,000ha, including the three areas of the Trang An Ecological Site, Tam Coc-Bich Dong Site and former Hoa Lu Capital Area.
The region is scattered with karst topography such as limestone mountains, caves and lakes.
The site is home to diverse fauna and flora with 500 species of flora, 73 species of birds, and 41 species of other animals. Scientists found traces of early people dating back 5,000-30,000 years ago in the nearby Boi and Trong caves.
A scientific dossier on historical and geological values of the site is being compiled to seek UNESCO’s recognition as mixed natural and cultural heritage site of the world.
