Another national relic is "upgraded" in Hung Yen
|
VietNamNet Bridge - When the Tram Gian temple in Hanoi is still a hot scandal, a similar case has been discovered in Hung Yen province. Mau Temple, a national relic, is being newly built by the local government.
“It’s my fault,” says Buddhist nun of 1,000-year-old temple
1,000 year-old pagoda after and before its “restoration"
Plan to save ‘restored' 1000-year-old pagod
Mau Temple is a typical architectural monument in the Pho Hien relic complex, which was ranked as a national relic in 1990. This is also a spiritual tourism destination which attracts many tourists to visit and worship. Mau Temple is under the direct management of the People's Committee of Quang Trung ward, Hung Yen city.
Mau Temple welcomes tens of thousands of visitors annually but the local authorities have not planned parking areas, resulting in frequent traffic congestion in front of the relic.
As a major tourist attraction but there are no tour guides, no publications such as brochures, leaflets to introduce the relic to tourists. Services for Buddhist followers who come to the temple for worship are also unavailable.
Many people said buying offerings at the Mau Temple is much more expensive compared to other places. However, this situation has taken place for a long time without solutions.
Besides the above sad reality, the temple management board and the local localities are doing something that visitors have raised questions about the restoration of the temple.
Specifically, nine kiosks are under construction in front of the temple gate, in the protected zone without consulting specialized agencies and the competent agencies.
Nine kiosks are being built in front of the temple's gate.
Nguyen Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of Quang Trung District, Hung Yen city said Do Xuan Tuyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung Yen city agreed to build the 9 kiosks in the Mau Temple.
The chairman of Hung Yen city’s permission to restore and upgrade the Mau Temple is not in accordance with the law. Under the Heritage Law, the People's Committee of Hung Yen city does not have the right to build new works in the protected zone of the national relic. Section 3, Article 32 of the Heritage Law specifies that the construction activities in the protected zone of national relics must be approved in written by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The area in front of the Mau Temple’s gate is the protected zone. So, without a license of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the People’s Committee of Hung Yen city’s approval of construction 9 kiosks in this area is violation to the Law on Cultural Heritage.
To clarify this issue, in early September 2012, nearly two months since the kiosks were constructed, VietNamNet’s reporters met with the Relics Management Board of Hung Yen province. By this time this agency knew about the above case. This means that the construction of nine kiosks at the Mau Temple was not reported to the Relics Management Board of Hung Yen.
Then the Relics Management Board asked the People's Committee of Quang Trung district to make files on the construction of kiosks at the Mau Temple to submit to specialized agencies and competent authorities for solving in accordance with the legal process.
Through this case, Hung Yen Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and relevant agencies of Hung Yen province need to join hands to not let the second Tram Giang case to happen.

‘Divo of Viet Nam' hosts love-themed live show
|
During the performance, dubbed Tung Duong Sings Love Songs, the singer, who has been named "Divo of Viet Nam", will perform songs by "masters" of Vietnamese music, including Trinh Cong Son, Van Cao, Doan Chuan, Tu Linh, Ngo Thuy Mien and Pham Duy.
Duong became known for his "odd" performing style, a unique mixture of rebelliousness and experiment, and seems to break conventional rules whenever he is on stage.
However, the singer, who turns 30 on September 18, said he will present himself as a sweet and romantic man when he performs in the forthcoming live show.
"Through this performance, I want to break the image of me being an ‘odd' artist. I want my audiences to welcome me as a singer of the ballads and love songs," Duong said.
Besides the songs by veteran composers, Duong will also sing tunes from greats such as Thanh Tung, Tran Tien, Phu Quang, and Do Bao.
In addition, world famous songs including When I Fall in Love, Greatest Love of All, and I Will Always Love You will be featured by the singer.
According to Duong, although the songs have already been performed successfully by other singers, he believes he can bring his personality distincive style to create something fresh and exciting.
Diva Thanh Lam and young singer Nguyen Thao will be special guests during the show and will sing a duet with Duong.
Another special guest of the show will be famous contemporary painter Le Thiet Cuong, who will showcase on stage the art installation Love Tree to support the theme of the show.
Duong, who shot to fame in the beginning of 2004 after winning the singing contest Sao Mai Diem Hen (Morning Star – Rendezvous), quickly became one of the country's top singers.
A graduate of the National Academy of Music, he is experienced in various genres, including jazz, folk and pop.
The star won the Devotion Prize's Singer of the Year in 2004, 2010 and 2011, while his albums Nhung O Mau Lap Phuong (The Coloured Cubes) and Li Ti (Tiny) sealed the Album of the Year award in 2007 and 2011, respectively.
The show Tung Duong Sings Love Songs takes place at the Ha Noi Opera House on Saturday and next Tuesday at 8pm, before travelling to HCM City in December.

Vietnamese puppeteers fly high at International Marionette Festival
|
VietNamNet Bridge – ‘Giai Dieu Ky Uc’ (Melodies of Time) by the Hai Phong City Puppetry Art Troupe won one of three gold prizes of the third International Marionette Festival at Au Co Arts Centre, which closed in Hanoi on September 10.
The performances were staged as an appeal to preserve and uphold the essence of traditional Vietnamese culture during the country’s modernisation process, with Meritorious Artist, Vuong Duy Bien, taking the Best Director prize and the Best Musical prize going to composer Phu Quang.
“I was impressed by ‘Melodies of Time’. It was an excellent performance, which wonderfully displayed the art of puppet control, stage arrangement, set design and intended message to the audience. It was imbued with both oriental philosophy and traditional Vietnamese culture,” said Mazal Amir, Director of the Israel’s Far Theatre.
The two other golds went to ‘Death of Rahwana’ by the Wayang Golek Ajen puppetry troupe from Indonesia and ‘How Sacred the Word “Compatriot”’ by Vietnam’s Thang Long Puppetry Theatre.
Vietnamese performances also dominated the silver prizes, where three out of the four silvers were won by performances of ‘Aladdin and the Magic Lamp’ and ‘White Space’ by the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre; and ‘Feature of Hong Lam’ by Ha Tinh provincial puppet troupe. The last silver place was awarded for ‘Hakka Marriage by Coincidence’, a performance by the Shan Puppet Theatre from Chinese Taiwan.
At the conclusion of the event, the organising board awarded an additional 14 gold and 21 silver prizes to domestic and foreign puppeteers and groups of artists.
The week-long festival, co-organised by the Department of Performing Arts and the Vietnam Association of Stage Artists, introduced 19 puppetry performances by 15 troupes from ten countries including Israel, Cambodia, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Egypt, Turkey, Laos and host Vietnam.
"The puppeteers coloured the stage with performances in various forms of rod, shadow, string, hand-instructed and water puppetry in various themes, including the traditions and customs of the participating countries; ethic lessons inspired from folk tales, to the burning issues of contemporary life, such as pollution and moral degradation,” said the Chief Judge, Nguyen Thanh Nhan.
“This is the third time we have attended the festival, which provides the artists a good opportunity to exchange professional ideas and techniques, as well as the benefits from increased cultural exchanges” said Danilo Liwanag, head of the Philippines puppet delegation.
Hanoi will continue to host the International Marionette Festival with the next outing already penciled for 2014.
