Cambodia destination attracts Vietnamese tourists
|
Vietnam has confirmed its position as the largest source of tourists to visit Cambodia in the first nine months this year, with over 580,000, up 25 percent year on year, reports Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism.
The Republic of Korea ranked second with 306,000 and third place went to China, followed by Laos, Thailand, Japan, the US and France.
With tourism being one of the country’s key sectors, its famous temples add to its efforts to increase its non-industrial based economy, which has grown steadily in recent years.
Cambodia will step up tourist promotions abroad, especially in ASEAN countries, said Tith Chantha, Director of the Tourism Department under the ministry.
In the first three quarters of this year, Cambodia attracted almost 2.57 million international visitors, up nearly 24 percent year on year.
In 2011, Cambodia earned US$2.5 billion from tourism, making up the lion share of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP)./.

Hue city attracts a lot of Thai tourists
|
The central province of Thua Thien Hue saw a large increase in the number of Thai tourists in the first ten months of this year, accounting for 16 percent of all foreign arrivals in the locality.
During the period, the province welcomed almost nearly 715,000 foreign arrivals out of a total of 2.2 million visitors, up 10.6 percent over the same period last year.
As a result, the province earned more than 1 trillion VND from the tourism industry, an annual increase of 25.2 percent.
Apart from Thailand, most holiday-makers were from France, Australia, Germany, the US, the UK, Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, Spain and Netherlands.
According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Phan Tien Dung, thanks to improvements in the infrastructure along the East West Economic Corridor, linking Vietnam, Laos and Thailand , the number of Thai visitors to Hue has risen sharply.
The local tourism sector also received a boost from the agreement on tourism cooperation signed between the Ministers of Culture, Sports and Tourism from Mekong Sub-region nations, which allows tourists to use one visa for Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand, Dung added.
He said that Thua Thien – Hue , with its popular tourism destinations and beautiful beaches, will attract more holiday-makers from Thailand and other nations around the region.
The number of foreigners to visit Hue by sea has reached 30,435 in recent times, most from China, Italy, Spain, the UK, the US, Canada and Australia.
The provincial’s tourism sector has set a target of welcoming 40,000 sea borne visitors to the locality this year./.

Over 35 tourists harassment cases handled
|
Da Nang Police Department is carrying out its 764 programme which aims to stop the harassment of tourists in the city.
Just over one month after its implementation, they have dealt with more than 35 violations at some of the city’s attractions, including the Con and Han markets, the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture, and the Marble Mountains.
The head of the city’s Security Police Office, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Phan Thanh Suong, said that there has been a significant fall in the number of violations at the city’s attractions.
