Terraced field festival canceled because of fatal landslides
|
VietNamNet Bridge – After the landslides that killed 20 people in Mu Cang Chai district on September 7, Yen Bai province authorities have decided to cancel the cultural, sports and tourism week about the terraced rice fields of Mu Cang Chai though preparation for the event had been finalized.
Earlier, Yen Bai province announced to hold the event on September 14-20, in the four communes of La Phan Tan, De Xu Phinh, Pung Luong and Che Cu Nha, which will include a photo exhibition on terraced rice fields, a market day, and folk performances. The festival was designed to introduce Mu Cang Chai’s terraced rice fields and the cultural values of the H’mong ethnic people to visitors.
Mu Cang Chai district’s Chair Giang A Tong said that the event is canceled but some activities would be organized on October 18, to celebrate the district’s 55th anniversary.
One week before the event, on September 7, 20 people were killed in a landslide while heading to a tin mine in La Pan Tan Commune. After three days, rescue workers found out 19 victims. They are seeking for the last one.

Blind OV woman enters Master Chef final
|
Christine Ha, a blind woman of Vietnamese origin, has shown her exceptional talents to overcome 30,000 contestants and advance to the final stage of the US Master Chef, which will take place on September 10.
On September 4, Ha won an edge over competitor Becky Reams in the season's penultimate "Mystery Box" competition with her Vietnamese scallop stir fry. It gave her the pick of proteins in the elimination dish when the choice of proteins was chicken legs, frog legs or lamb.
Her last dish, buttermilk fried chicken, was praised by Master Chef host Gordon Ramsay as "modern home cooking.”
Ha will compete in the finale against 24-year-old Jost Marks for the US$250,000 cash prize and a cookbook publishing contract.
The 33 year old is a student at the University of Houston and is also a well known culinary blogger. She lost her vision at the age of 19 to a rare autoimmune disease called Neuromyelitis optica.
Ha said that she has been cooking without any assistance for more than 10 years.

Vietnam Airlines cooperates with SNCF from France
|
(CPV) - The Vietnam National Flag Carrier Vietnam Airlines has signed a cooperation agreement with France's national state-owned railway (French National Railway Corporation) on providing transportation services for its passengers.
Following that, Vietnam Airlines passengers can use France's high-speed rail service – TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) from Charles De Gaulle International Airport to travel to 19 domestic destinations around the nation including: Lille, Le Mans, Angers St-Laud, Nantes, Rennes, St-Pierre des Corps, Poitiers, Bordeaux St Jean, Lyon Part – Dieu, Valence TGV, Avignon TGV, Aix en Provence TGV, Marseille St Charles, Strasbourg, Nitnes, Montpellier, Toulon, Champagne TGV, and Lorraine TGV.
Landing at Charles De Gaulle International Airport, passengers will easily and conveniently manage their time-table to use TGV services with simple procedures and acceptable prices.
