Quang Ngai blockades the shipwreck with 500-year-old antiques

VietNamNet Bridge – The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai Province has asked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s permission to excavate antiquities in a shipwreck in Binh Chau and to send experts of the Archaeological Institute to survey the shipwreck.
On September 11, in the face of hundreds of fishermen rushed to salvage antiques in Chau Thuan Bien hamlet in Binh Chau Commune, Binh Son District of Quang Ngai province, the local government instructed police and border guards to strictly protect the waters where fishermen have discovered the shipwreck with precious antiques dating back 500 years.
The Quang Ngai authorities organized an urgent meeting on the evening of September 10 to direct relevant agencies to zone and protect the area where fishermen discovered and salvaged antiques.
Quang Ngai’s Vice Chairman Le Quang Thich directed the local Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to ask the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s permission for urgently excavate the shipwreck and appraise the antiques.
Deputy Director of the Museum of Quang Ngai Le Thi Chung said that after the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism allows the province to perform urgent excavation, within three days the museum would coordinate with the Vietnam Archaeological Institute and a company specializing in marine salvage to fish out antiques.
The authorities have seized about 35 artifacts including: bowls, cups, plates with finely carved patterns. Ms. Chung said that the whole of the ceramic artifacts are ceramic items of the Ming Dynasty in China in the 15th century.
In 1999, the Museum of Quang Ngai performed archaeological excavation in Chau Thuan Bien hamlet, around 1km from the shore. Hundreds of kilograms of antiques, mostly ceramics and stone artifacts on a wreck in the Ming dynasty (15th -17th centuries). Some artifacts are on display at the Vietnam History Museum with the theme "Culture of the sea and islands."
According to many fisherman in Chau Thuan Bien hamlet, artifacts are found only about 100 meters from shore, buried deep under the sea about 3 meters. From September 7, a ship owner is said to collect the highest number of artifacts – around 200 ceramic items.
"Around 30 other ships have also salvaged dozens of other artifacts. Some of them earn a billion dong from selling antiques", a fisherman disclosed.

Photo exhibition of the central northern region held in Vinh City

VietNamNet Bridge – In the morning of September 10, the 19th photo exhibition of the Central northern region opened in the central city of Vinh, in Nghe An Province. The exhibition is entitled "Land and people of the Central northern region in the cause of national construction and defense."
The exhibition is held annually, introducing the best works by photographers in the six provinces in the Central northern region. This year, the organizing board received 1,074 photos of 175 authors in six provinces in the region.
Of which, Thanh Hoa province has 201 works by 37 authors, Ha Tinh with 149 works by 24 authors, Quang Binh with 107 works by 18 authors, Quang Tri 148 works by 24 authors, Thua Thien - Hue 226 works of 35 authors and the host province Nghe An, with the highest number of photos - 243 works by 37 authors.
A new feature of this year's festival is the judging and opening ceremony being held adjacent to each other, enabling the organizers to hold an on-the-spot photo competition for photographers who attend the festival, with the theme "Joy and Motion" in Nghe An province.
In one day, the jury consisting of five members, led by People’s Artist Vu Quoc Khanh, Chairman of the Vietnam Photographers’ Association, selected 139 photos for exhibition and 11 prize winning works. The official prizes consist of one gold medal for a photo by Le Quang Dung from Nghe An.
Two silver medals go to "Building hydropower plant in the Ma River" by Trong Thang from Thanh Hoa province and "Laparoscopy" by Tu Thanh from Nghe An.
Three bronze medals are presented to "Motherhood” by Bui Quang Thanh from Ha Tinh Province, "Drops of Dong Son Bronze" by Truong Ba Vinh from Thanh Hoa and "Joining Efforts” by Nguyen Huu Hai from Thua Thien – Hue province.
Five encouragement prizes are also granted to Dang Viet from Nghe An, Hoang An from Quang Binh, Phan Van Bau from Quang Binh, Trong Thang from Thanh Hoa and Tran Huong from Ha Tinh.
On this occasion, six prizes are also granted in the on-the-spot photo competition, worth VND1 million ($50) each.
The next photo festival will be held in Thua Thien – Hue province next year.

Phuong Uyen still music director of Viet Voice

VietNamNet Bridge - Tearfully admitting that the recorded conversation in the clip accusing Viet Voi vocal competition’s pre-arrangement is true and apologizing for having a 'coarse manner of speaking,' songwriter Phuong Uyen still decided to not resign.
The Viet Voice producer held a press conference in Ho Chi Minh City on September 11 to explain suspicions about the 8-minute clip which was posted on the internet, accusing the program’s pre-arrangement.
The press conference started 20 minutes later than expected, with the participation of the
organizer, music director Phuong Uyen, coaches and many contestants. The focus of the conference is musician Phuong Uyen, who is mentioned most in the clip
Opening the meeting, Mr Quang Minh, director of Cat Tien Sa Company, the organizer, said: "In the last two days, there is a lot of disturbing information and many reporters asked me about the truth. I promise you will hear the truth and only the truth. We hope to clarify any hidden."
Phuong Uyen, who is in the "center of the storm" of public criticism, stood up and said: "I want to apologize all members of The Voice for stolen information and posted online. What you saw on the video clip is not as you think. I have only advisory authority and the right to choose songs, not the right to decide who move to the next round. I saw diamonds from the qualifier round so I sit on the position of the music director."
Phuong Uyen verified that the voice in the recorded conversations in the clip is her voice but the contents were edited.
"It's a very long story. I'm not in favor of the Thieu Bao Trang. I shot photos with a lot of contestants. Why did you just take my picture and Trang? I’ve never taken personal feelings on the job," she said.
The musician cried and said that she was harmed and this was a vengeance. "I hurt to know the person next to me is the one who harmed me. Only that person has the password open my mailbox. I apologize for the personal things that affect the program."
Quang Minh said the organizing board had sent an application to the Ministry of Public Security to ask them to verify the truth and to search for the person who posted the clip on the Internet. But police would not prosecute the perpetrator.

After giving explanation, Phuong Uyen cried and admitted her mistake for having coarse words in the clip. She said: "We are only servants so people should recognize the efforts of VTV3 and the program producer. It is my desire to do anything for Vietnamese music. I would like to withdraw from the position of the music director from this time on." She asked musician Hoai Sa to take on this role.
However, both the organizers and four coaches praised Phuong Uyen and expressed their wish of having her to stay with the program.
"Phuong Uyen has done a good job as the music director. We love her for her enthusiasm and passion for music. Although she is under pressure to resign, we still want to work with her," said Quang Minh.
Coach Thu Minh said: "I did not prepare anything to say. I understand Phuong Uyen because I’ve know her for a very long time. About this incident, I see not much to do with myself. I just want to tell Phuong Uyen 'I love you.'"
Thu Minh additionally explained about the telephone conversation, in which Phuong Uyen said:"Minh does not have any power. I’m the boss…." According to Thu Minh, she was in Europe at that time so she asked Phuong Uyen to take care of her team.
Coach Ho Ngoc Ha acclaimed: "Phuong Uyen is talented and excellent. She did not do favor to any contestant. She did not sleep many nights to practice with us. She is the soul of contestants and the program. She is not going anywhere. Let’s sit here with us."
Coach Dam Vinh Hung followed: "I’ve learned from Phuong Uyen on how to teach contestants. We are not puppets but persons who do art. I beseech you Phuong Uyen to rethink your decision to leave the post of musical director.”
He turned round to ask the contestants: "Who agrees that Phuong Uyen would keep the music director position, please raise your hand." Immediately, all contestants raised their hands up and simultaneously called out: "Phuong Uyen, Phuong Uyen."
Some contestants also spoke to support Phuong Uyen.
Many details in the clip were raised for Phuong Uyen and relevant persons to explain.
When reporters asked about the email of coach Tran Lap to Phuong Uyen, asking for changing songs for his contestants, this coach said: "I confirm that this is the job between professionals. For me, this is nothing."
The suspicion about the close relations between contestant Thieu Bao Trang and Phuong Uyen and this contestant was favored in the competition was also mentioned. Phuong Uyen answered that she loved all candidates and had no favor for anyone.
Thieu Bao Trang was quite calm, saying: "I thank the people who come here to hear me say. I just hope this incident passes. And the only thing is that contestants will use their voices to prove that this program is fair ."
The matter that people cared the most is that Phuong Uyen would continue to serve as the music director or not.
Director of Cat Tien Sa company, Quang Minh, said that he had received the resignation of Phuong Uyen, but "we are just representative of the organizing board so we cannot decide yet. Results should be based on public opinion, the coaches and the organizing board."
Responding to Minh, some reporters said that the decision to keep or not is due to the organizers, not the public or the media.
Minh said softly: "This is a sad story. The meeting today is not for debate. We just hope that the program really gives the audience hours of healthy entertainment. On behalf of the organizing board, I would like to retain Phuong Uyen."
Phuong Uyen said: "Before the meeting, I decided to go to America and will never come back. Today I’ve lost too much. I lost my audience. I had not involved in the music world for a time and now I came back for the Viet Voice program. If I do not continue this job, I will lose everything. Anyone who makes mistake will have to correct the mistake. I wish you reporters would help the audience know what the real me, not me in the clip."
Pausing a moment, she looked towards reporters and asked: "Should I stay with The Voice?" A reporter said: "You must do it, no one can help."
Finally, Phuong Uyen said: "Then I will stay with The Voice and demonstrate myself for everyone." The attendants clapped and the press conference ended.
The clip that accused Viet Voice’s pre-arrangement was released on the night of September 9 when Episode 3 was being aired on VTV3. The video was spread on the net at breakneck speed.
The clip pasted together a lot of "materials" for the purpose of “answering the questions that the press cannot answer yet about Viet Voice."
