After the great success last year, the European-Vietnamese Dance Days under the motto „Europe meets Vietnam in Contemporary Dance“ will once again take place in Hanoi.
Three contemporary dance productions on one evening – from Belgium, Germany and Vietnam – offer the public an opportunity to get to know different dance traditions, themes and artistic expressions.
The dance piece „Lamento“, a solo piece for the magnificent dancer Gabriella Iacono by the Belgian choreographer Michèle Anne De Mey, varies the subject of deep pain at the loss of the beloved and at being deceived by love.
The music belongs to the opera Arianna by Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643).
The German contribution „Get the revolver!“ shows the character of a woman who suffers from dementia at the end of her life, beginning to slide towards a dream world which gradually dissolves her personality.
The choreographer Helena Waldmann expresses this process in likewise oppressive as well as moving settings. With this piece, the solo dancer Brit Rodemund was awarded the title Dancer of the yearin Germany.
Vietnam’s contribution will be performed by the young dancers of the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet.
Free entry tickets available from 10 am on 24.9.2012 in the Goethe-Institute Hanoi, 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc

Early Mid-Autumn color at D5’s ‘lantern street’
|
VietNamNet Bridge – There are still three more weeks to the Mid-Autumn festival which falls on September 30 or the 15th day of the eighth lunar month.
But Saigonese are rushing down to ‘lantern street’, namely Luong Nhu Hoc in District 5 to admire the beauty of sparkling lanterns in different shapes and colors.
The colorful lanterns help children celebrate this special day by holding lanterns and singing songs as they walk around the neighborhood and savor moon-cake with friends and families. According to some lantern shop owners at Luong Nhu Hoc Street, this year there have been large amounts of visitors to the street but only a few of them are actually buying lanterns… there is still plenty of time.
Here are some photos taken at lantern street by The Saigon Times Daily’s contributor Trong Duy:
