Century-Old Le Beaulieu at Metropole Named “One of World’s Best”
(CPV) – The US website TheDailyMeal.com has singled out Le Beaulieu at the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi as one of the ‘101 Best Hotel Restaurants Around the World’ in 2012. The 80-seat contemporary restaurant was picked for the win after a search that spanned six continents, 40 countries and 80 cities. "Although Le Beaulieu is the oldest, continually operated restaurant in Vietnam, we're right on the edge of contemporary appeal," said Kai Speth, the hotel's general manager. "These laurels are a testament to the fact that travellers can indulge one of the finest French meals in the world right here in Hanoi." Le Beaulieu is most well known among Hanoians and residents for its social Sunday brunches, seasonal menus showcasing Groison’s own family recipes, and an impressive wine cellar stocked with more than 100 Grand Crus. TheDailyMeal website is part of the Spanfeller Media Group, which also manages Forbes.com and its ancillary sites, including ForbesTraveler.com. According to TheDailyMeal, the list represents “restaurants that have consistently set the benchmark by which other hotel restaurants are measured.”

Conde Nast Traveller votes the Nam Hai as Best Overseas Spa Hotel
(CPV) – The UK’s leading travel magazine has recognized the Nam Hai Resort in the central province of Quang Nam as the winner of its 2012 Reader’s Travel Award. Almost 24,000 votes were cast in 23 categories including ‘Best Overseas Spa Hotel,’ which went to The Nam Hai “thanks to remarkably high marks for accommodation, ambience and restaurants,” according to the publication’s editors. Other contenders for the prestigious prize included last year’s winner, Six Senses Samui in Thailand. The full list of finalists will be revealed in the October issue. “We’ve always strived to offer the very best quality, service and amenities in order to stand out from other resorts,” said Ed Linsley, general manager of The Nam Hai. “This award proves to us that we’ve been on the right track, and serves as motivation for us to keep moving in that direction.” Since opening in December 2006 on a beach Forbes once called one of the world’s most luxurious stretches of sand”. The Nam Hai has been recognized by Conde Nast Publications several times. In 2007, the resort earned a spot on Conde Nast Traveler’s annual Hot List. In 2010 and 2011, it made the magazine’s “Top 20 Resorts in Asia” list./.

Opera “Cosi fan Tutte” by Mozart to be performed in Hanoi
(CPV) – One of Mozart’s best loved operas, namely “Cosi fan Tutte”, the libretto of which was written by Lorenzo da Ponte, will be performed by the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet (VNOB) at the Hanoi Opera House on October 5 and 6, 2012. “Cosi fan Tutte” is an opera which was “ahead of its time” – a classical opera written in 1790 but with a theme that is utterly contemporary and completely relevant to modern audiences. This is the story of relationships, love, and being faithful and loyal to one’s partners. It shows women trying to be faithful but eventually giving in, in the face of temptation by the very partners they say they ought to be faithful to. Should people follow their heads or their hearts, or even simply their passions and feelings? The story shows partners being swapped – unknowingly on the part of the women, but very much intentionally by the men. The ending is unclear, do the lovers return to their original partners, stay with the new ones, or indeed, do the four of them live together happily ever after? The audience is left to decide. The opera was performed several times in forward-looking Vienna, but after Mozart’s and the Emperor’s deaths, it began to be considered quite shocking and so was hardly ever performed anywhere throughout the 19th century. Although the VNOB has performed this opera before, this production is a new, shortened version directed and conducted by Graham Sutcliffe. The opera will be performed in Italian with Vietnamese and English subtitles. All tickets are available at Hanoi Opera House, 1 Trang Tien, or can be booked at: www.ticketvn.com or ticketvn@gmail.com./.
