Despite not having as many tourist attractions as Phnom Penh or Angkor Wat, Kampong Cham is the best place to get a feel of the "real" Cambodia with views of the rural countryside or river area, depending on which way you go. It's also a nice jump-off point thanks to few worthwhile attractions nearby including Kratie, Mondulkiri, Rattanakiri and Stung Treng Provinces.
