Takeo is in southern Cambodia and shares a border with Vietnam. It is one of the country's most productive agricultural provinces and rice paddy fields feature prominently in the landscape. Both the Bassac and Mekong rivers flow through the province flooding it extensively for several months every year. Travel during those months is commonly by boat, and even in the dry season it is the preferred form of travel on the canals that crisscross the province.
