Irish couples to adopt more Vietnamese babies in future
|
Adoption links between Ireland and Vietnam will officially reopen tomorrow after a new deal was struck between the nations, according to the Herald newspaper in Ireland.
Irish couples will finally be able to adopt Vietnamese children by the end of the year follow discussions led by Irish Childrens’ Minister Frances Fitzgerald.
The minister confirmed that an agreement was to be signed with the Vietnamese Justice Minister, Ha Hung Cuong, in Dublin on Monday.
It means Vietnamese children will be adopted by Irish couples for the first time since the previous agreement ended in 2009.
The breakthrough in negotiations will come as a massive relief to more than 200 Irish couples who were in the early stages of the adoption process with Vietnam when a bilateral adoption agreement ended in May 2009.
Approximately nine couples in particular were at an advanced stage in the adoption process when the agreement came to an end.
Many of these couples had been in limbo as to what to do as they were unaware of the time-frame that it would take for negotiations to open up between both sides.
However after intense discussions, an official agreement will now be signed — paving the way for adoptions to be organized by Irish couples.
The first adoption is expected to take place by the year-end.

A small Saigon at Go Coc Coc Cafe
|
A guest chooses her seat in front of a picture featuring a bakery at the Go Coc Coc Cafe in District 3 - Photo: Kieu Giang
The newly-built Go Coc Coc Cafe in District 3 is an intriguing spot which brings the city to life on its artistic walls.
The cafe is located on a peaceful street called No. 3 off Vuon Chuoi Street on Do Thanh Condo and is like the front of a house in this residential area.
However, once entering the door guests can make an “oh” sound as they see huge colorful pictures on high wooden walls featuring a familiar scene of any Saigon street with electric poles, street food vendors, tailor shops, some notices on walls letting rooms and selling houses. Some small wooden tables and chairs are set up next to each other but also give privacy for guests thanks to the decoration of bookshelves. This area is suitable for couples or those who wish to have a silent moment to think or read.
The first floor sees guests sit in a Japanese-style area with pictures of April 30 Park in District 1 with the Notre Dame Cathedral, the shady Han Thuyen and Duy Tan streets, a bus stop and pavement coffee shops. Most young people prefer this space as they can sit in a group to both chat to each other and listen to live acoustic performances at weekends. Some guests might not like the voices of the singers who are amateur artists or music students but what these young artists bring us is enthusiasm, vitality and a lively edge to complement the cafe’s style.
If you have time and want to experience a new environment and style just consider Go Coc Coc Cafe located at 26/4 Road No. 3, Do Thanh Condo, District 3
