Weekend offers rock, skateboarding and more
VietNamNet Bridge – Local female bands will gather for an all-female performance at Ha Noi Rock City (HRC), 27/52, To Ngoc Van Street, Tay Ho District, on Friday night, from 8-12pm. Over the past year, Ha Noi has solidified its reputation as home to a unique assortment of female artists, musicians and selectors. Come out and show some support for the capital's female artists and bands, including Good Graeff, Go Lim, Zippy, DJ Pants, and Lethal Lizzle. Tickets cost VND50,000 at the venue. On Saturday, HRC and VNRock.com kick off a music night with Black Infinity. For Hanoian rock fans, this might be the hottest event of the summer. Founded in 2006, the band has established itself as a core element of the Vietnamese rock scene. The band was featured in the CD compilation Planet Metal by the UK magazine Metal Hammer in April 2010. The band's performance will be joined by guest performers Epione and OringChains. Ticket prices VND100,000 at door. On Sunday, Ha Noi Skatopia will host a free skateboarding event. Several ramps and obstacles galore will fill the venue, including flat-bank, hip, box, rail and the shiny metal mini ramp. There will also be DJ's playing throughout the event, which will start at 4pm. * US West Coast DJ debuts in the capital CAMA ATK introduces DJ Alefresh from the West Coast of the US. Alefresh will present a set of reggae, hip hop, ghetto funk and house mixed the good old fashioned way during his sole show in Ha Noi on Friday. In 1999, Alefresh started playing underground house parties in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan, also known as the birthplace of techno music. In 2000 he moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he played underground parties with longtime companion DJ Rundown. The pair relied on a mix of reggae, hiphop, breaks, and funky house music. After performing at Burning Man Festival in 2003 he moved to California and took a hiatus from his DJ career. He recently re-emerged as DJ Alefresh and began to incorporate digital music into his sets. Since playing Burning Man 2011, Alefresh has catapulted himself back into the Bay Area DJ scene, with a crew based out of Lake Tahoe. His Ha Noi show will take place at 73 Mai Hac De Street, from 9-12pm.
