VietNamNet Bridge – After several accidents occurred for tourist boats, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has asked local governments to suspend the operation of unsafe vessels.

The Ministry has also asked the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Departments of Transportation of all provinces and related agencies to inspect and handle violations of regulations to ensure safety for tourists on the inland waterways.
Truong Hai ship was wrecked in February 2011, killing 12 people.
Several severe waterway accidents have occurred recently. Most recently, a small boat was sunken while transporting tourists from Sung Sot Cave in Ha Long Bay to the Paradise Luxury tourist boat, after having a collision with another tourist boat on October 3, killing five Taiwanese tourists.
Earlier, some serious waterway accidents were reported, such as the shipwreck of Truong Hai on February 17, 2011 near the Ti Top Island, in Ha Long Bay, which killed 12 people, and the shipwreck of the Din Ky restaurant boat in Binh Duong province on May 20, 2011 that killed 15 people.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, these accidents have caused serious consequences, affecting the image of Vietnam’s tourism.
Ensuring the safety of tourist boats will contribute to building the prestige for the tourism industry.
