VietNamNet Bridge – Japan’s leading comedian Utazo Katsura will perform for free in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in late October.
Rakuko is a Japanese traditional verbal entertainment. A solo storyteller, sitting on the stage, equipped only with a paper fan sensu and small cloth tenugui as props, depicts long and complicated comical stories without standing up from the sitting position.
As the story is told in Japanese, there is always a language barrier preventing foreigners from fully enjoying the Rakugo performance.
Born in 1964, Utazo Katsura was placed second in the list of the best Rakugo artists in 1996 and recognized as one of the leading Japanese comedians in 2006.
In Hanoi, he will perform at Radio the Voice of Vietnam Theatre, 58 Quan Su Street on October 24. Free tickets are available at the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, 27 Quang Trung Street on October 12.
While in Ho Chi Minh City, he will be on the stage of the student cultural house, 643 Dien Bien Phu Street on October 27. Tickets are free at the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam-VJCC HCMC, 15 D5, Ward 25, Binh Thanh District.
