(CPV) – Vietnam greeted more than 3.83 million foreign visitors in the first seven months of 2012, a 10.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year, reported the General Statistics Office.
Of this figure, more than 3.2 million visitors came to Vietnam by air, accounting for nearly 84 percent of the total number of foreign visitors to Vietnam and an increase of 10.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
Since early this year, the number of foreign visitor to Vietnam by sea rose sharply by nearly 55 percent year on year.
China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the US, Australia, France and some Southeast Asian countries are now the leading markets of the local tourism. In particular, since early this year, Japan and the Republic of Korea saw sharp increases in the number of foreign visitors to Vietnam with 21.4 percent and 37.9 percent, respectively. In the Southeast Asia region, in the first seven months this year, the number of visitors from Malaysia and Thailand surged sharply with 24 percent and 22.7 percent, respectively.
With more than 3.83 million foreign visitors to Vietnam in the first seven months this year, the Vietnam’s tourism sector fulfilled 59 percent of the country’s target of welcoming 6.5 million foreign tourists in 2012./.
