Mid-Autumn Festival being held in Hanoi’s Old Quarter
Various activities are being held at four locations in Hanoi’s Old Quarter from September 18th to 30th to celebrate the cultural characteristics of the festival for people in Hanoi as well as domestic and foreign tourists. Traditional toys such as star-shaped lanterns and ‘To He’ (toy figurines) are being introduced at Dong Lac temple at 38 Hang Dao Street. Puppeteers from Te Tieu puppet village in My Duc district bring delight to visitors with their performances at the Old Quarter Information Centre at 28 Hang Buom Street. The art of torn paper pictures by young Hanoi artists can be seen at the Ancient House located at 87 Ma May Street, while a space for the traditional Mid-autumn festival is set aside at Kim Ngan Temple at 42 Hang Bac Street. Audiences also have the chance to enjoy ‘Ca Tru’ (ceremonial singing) at Kim Ngan Temple Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evenings, and at the Ancient House every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evening. These cultural activities have practical significance to honour the tangible and intangible cultural values of Hanoi, as well as introduce tourists to the customs and cultural identities of the Mid-autumn festival in Hanoi Old’s Quarter, improving people’s awareness about the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage value./.
