A watercolor and ink exhibition featuring 55 paintings by artist Tran Van Hai is now on at the City Exhibition House in HCMC’s District 1. The paintings in the artist’s first ever exhibition were inspired during trips to the coastal regions, the Highlands and the Mekong Delta from 2006 to 2010.
According to artist Nguyen Huy Khoi, in his exhibition Hai displays a fresh style of painting with bold youthful brush strokes.
Hai has been painting in watercolors and inks since 2003 with some success in flower, bird, fish and landscape paintings.
People at the show paid most attention to a group of five
quasi-traditional style paintings of chickens, with thick black strokes
for the wings and tails.
Paintings at the exhibition are priced from US$400 to US$800 while
the five chicken paintings called “Ngu duc” (five virtues) are marked
at US$1,500 for the set.
