The expansion of tourism in the northeastern regions was the focus of a conference held in the northern province of Tuyen Quang on September 28.
The event is part of the 8th Northeastern Region Ethnic Minority Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival.
Delegates confirmed that tourism in the region is yet to experience any great success, citing the limited number of arrivals, and the exclusively domestic and short-term nature of current visitors, and the region’s lack of typical tourism products.
They especially emphasised the disappointing extent of the tourism sector’s coordination across the region’s provinces.
Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), said planning should prioritise the development of the tourism sector while also ensuring local natural resources remain protected.
Apart from identifying the need to improve tourism infrastructure and human resources, delegates proposed exploring the potential of sites including Dong Van Stone Plateau, Ba Be Lake. and the Tan Trao historical tourism area./.
