”The Little Prince” to go on Saigon stage, in English
|
VietNamNet Bridge – Nicaraguan director Jaime Zuniga will bring “The Little Prince”, a famous work by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, to HCM City’s stage.
Director Jaime Zuniga and actress Lan Phuong.
The play will have the participation of 5-6 Vietnamese and foreign actors. Some of them will play several roles. Vietnamese actress Lan Phuong will play the part of the little Princess. A Pakistani actress will play the rose. Nguyen Ha Tu Trinh will be the snake. American guy Aaron Toronto plays the pilot as well as the narrator. The director himself will play the fox.
The Dragon Fly troupe of director Zunegava is practicing very hard to launch the play in October.
In director Jaime Zuniga's apartment on a weekend day, Lan Phuong held the script in her hand and murmured English words. After a variety of roles on stage and screen, Lan Phuong was happy and surprised to be invited to play the little Prince. The actress has felt in love with the famous literary and romantic story and the charming prince. "I could not imagine that one day I become him (little Prince) to wander through planets, to talk with a rose and a fox," she said.
Lan Phuong said she met many challenges to act as the Little Prince because the play is entirely in English; the drama as well as the original work are for children but with high philosophy, filled with messages for everyone. Especially the main character is at the age of 8-10.
"Fortunately, I like playing with children. The dialogue in the script is not too refined, amplifying," she added.
Lan Phuong has read the translation by late poet Bui Giang and the English version of The Little Prince to understand more about the character.
Dragon Fly drama group director Jaime staging Zunegava "The Little Prince", is expected early May 10 HCMC debut.
This is the third English play, directed by Jaime Zunegava, to be performed on HCM City stage. Previously, “The Importance of Being Earnest” and “The Last Five Years” of the Dragonfly troupe were highly appreciated by the audience.
"The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was first published in 1943. This work has inspired the world stage with a lot of dramas adapted from the popular novel.
When he decided to move to Vietnam in November 11, 2008, Jaime Zunegava did not think that would do anything related to theater stage whether he liked drama. He used to try the work of an actor, a director, and a producer.
"My purpose in Vietnam is to do in the logistics industry (logistics industry) rather than the stage. Then the love of art and the appeal of art made me to decide to set up my own troupe," he said.
The long-term goal of Dragonfly Theatre is to become a professional English drama troupe in Ho Chi Minh City, serving domestic and foreign audiences who live and work here.
"We hope the Vietnamese audience will feel more confident when they came up with a play in English and be able to enjoy it, especially students. We expect to arrange several dramas each year and each drama can attract the audience for weeks like other big stages in Ho Chi Minh City do", the director said.
