According to the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, Swedish alto Anna Einarsson and Vietnamese tenor Trinh Thanh Binh will perform “The Song of the Earth” at the Hanoi Opera House on July 12th and 13th.
The large-scale, 65 minute performance for two vocal soloists and orchestra will be conducted by Austrian composer Gustave Mahler..
The work, composed between 1908-1909, includes six separate movements, each of them an independent song.
“The Song of the Earth” is an integration of song cycles with symphony and a combination of Western and Eastern cultures.
The work was first performed publicly in Munich, Germany in 1911.
