Female world number one Victoria Azarenka on Wednesday afternoon arrived at the Rex Hotel in District 1 as she gets prepared to join the Heineken Stars tournament which will kick off tonight at Lan Anh Club in District 10.
The 23-year-old Belarusian will join world No.13 Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia and male duo of Gilles Simon (France) and Spain’s Feliciano Lopez in singles games as well as a mixed doubles clash. Azarenka won her first Australian Open this year beating Maria Sharapova. She also won a gold medal in mixed doubles and bronze in the singles at this year’s London Olympics, and narrowly lost out in the U.S. Open singles final against Serena Williams, a game she should have won, earlier this month.
Besides playing competitive tennis, the four stars will have an online exchange conducted by Tuoi Tre Online, press conference, meet with fans and friendship matches with young players during their trip to Vietnam.
Heineken Stars, which originated as Heineken Challenge in 2006, is organized by the Vietnam Tennis Federation and Heineken’s producers Vietnam Brewery Ltd.
