In the first year, the program is expected to help 5,000 children in rural areas learn about proper toilet procedures and the importance of thoroughly washing their hands after using the toilet - and also offer hygiene and healthcare knowledge for 7,000 women. Under the agreement, Unilever Vietnam will support the budget for PSI Vietnam to carry out some social and media campaigns to raise people’s awareness on the prevention of diarrhea and water treatment. The joint co-operation is part of a global campaign. Some illnesses like diarrhea and dysentery are caused by dirty water and figures show that they kill a child every 20 seconds. Around 800 million people worldwide don’t have access to fresh drinking water. Untreated water and a dirty living environment are the main reasons for transmitted diseases among Vietnamese people.
