Two photo exhibitions about General Vo Nguyen Giap are being held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to mark the 102nd anniversary of his birthday.
In Hanoi, 102 photos reflecting the great gratitude and sentiment of photographer Nguyen Trong Nghi, a wounded veteran and 3rd Generation Agent Orange victim, to General Vo Nguyen Giap are on display at an exhibition entitled “General Vo Nguyen Giap and war veterans”.
The exhibition, which opened on August 22nd at the Information and Exhibition House at 93 Dinh Tien Hoang, Hanoi, will run until August 28th.
These 102 photos were taken by war veteran Nghi from 1999 to 2005. He later travelled 4,280 kilometers in 102 days to meet 15 generals, 25 colonels and hundreds of war veterans who had been in the photographs with General Vo Nguyen Giap, and recorded their feelings about these photos. Apart from the photos of General Vo Nguyen Giap in military uniform, there are many simple and friendly photos of the general talking with female drivers in Truong Son, soldiers and young volunteers at Truong Son Museum or meetings with war veterans who had been involved in the Dien Bien Phu battle.
Nghi was born in 1943 in the northern province of Hung Yen. He joined the army in 1962 and fought on many battlefields across the country. After being wounded and infected by Agent Orange, he gained skills in photography and became a photojournalist.
Another photo exhibition about General Vo Nguyen Giap opened at 92 Le Thanh Ton, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The event introduced 102 photos by artist and journalist Tran Tuan from Vietnam News Agency who spent 35 years meeting and taking photos of General Vo Nguyen Giap. The exhibition will be open until August 28th 2012./.
