Over 1,400 old songs permitted for circulation in Vietnam

VietNamNet Bridge – The Performing Art Agency has made public the list of songs written before 1975 that are allowed for circulation in Vietnam on its website.
This is the result of a 10-year process of assessing the contents of old songs that were written before the country’s unification in 1975 by a council of experts. The list also consists of songs that were written by overseas Vietnamese during the renovation period (since 1986).
Authors could ask the agency to consider and license their songs. However, most authors of songs written before 1975 passed away. In these cases, their relatives could ask for license. The songs with contents that meet criteria for circulation but their authors are not identified are temporarily listed as songs that are not published yet.
The list of 1,400 songs for circulation is now available on the Performing Art Agency’s website, in three categories: author names, song names and license numbers.
Mr. Tran Duc Tho, Deputy Editor-in-chief of the Performing Art Magazine, said that artists are very interested in this event. For many years, the HCM City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and other organizations asked the Performing Art Agency to quickly make public the list of old songs that are permitted for circulation in Vietnam.
“Based on this list, it will be easy for provincial agencies to grant license for music shows,” Tho said.
Singers whose albums were previously banned from circulation because the albums had songs that were not allowed for circulation can ask for license again if their songs are named in the list of 1,400 songs.
