HCM City bus to do tourist circuit
A bus that will go to HCM City's major tourist attractions from the city centre will begin operating on September 15. Bus No 127 will stop at important spots like the Reunification Palace on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, the Sai Gon Zoo and Botanical Garden, and several museums. It will depart from Ben Thanh Bus Station across from the eponymous market. Ten buses will ply on the 9.8km route, which will take 35 minutes to complete. They will operate from 5.30am to 8.12pm, leaving at 8-10-minute intervals, and tickets will cost a flat VND4,000 per trip and VND90,000 for a monthly pass. * King Bao Dai's home opened to tours The Hue Centre for Monument Conservation has thrown open to tourists An Dinh Palace, where the country's last king, Bao Dai of the Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945), and his family lived from 1945 to 1955. The palace was built in 1917-1918 by King Khai Dinh. After August 1945 it had became the home of King Bao Dai's mother and his family. In 1954, after Bao Dai was dismissed, the palace was seized by the Sai Gon administration. Bao Dai's mother bought a house close to the palace to live there until she died. After 1975 the revolutionary authorities took it over and gave the palace back to Bao Dai's mother, but she donated it to the government. Since then the palace was managed by the Hue Workers' Cultural House until it was handed over to the conservation centre. * Lower train fares in September Passengers are expected to enjoy a 13 per cent reduction in train fares in September under a promotion launched by the Viet Nam Railway corporation. A ticket from Ha Noi to HCM City in an air-conditioned coach with soft sleepers on train SE 3/4 will cost just VND1.7 million (US$80). On TN1/2 on the same route, the comparable fare will be around VND1.3 million ($65), down nearly 10 per cent from the current price of VND1.4 million ($70). The old fares will revert after the end of the month.
