Goethe Institute to take German films to major cities
|
The Goethe Institute will host the third German Film Festival from September 6 to October 4 with over 70 screens featuring ten current German movies in Hanoi, Haiphong, Hue, Danang, HCMC and Nha Trang.
German films this year deal with emotion and current issues. The films are about home and identity, about extraordinary love and passion, but also about friendship and responsibility. This year’s festival offers audiences a selection of films by respected directors and well-known German actors.
‘Promising the Moon’, a family epic, directed by Hans Steinbichler has won several awards, including ‘Best Original Score’ at the Film Festival Locarno IFF 2011 in Switzerland and the Bavarian Film Prize 2011.

The drama When We Leave of Feo Aladag was Germany’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2011 Oscars and received numerous national and international awards. The tragicomedy Three Fourths Moon by director Christian Zubert won the Bavarian Film Prize 2012 for best screenplay.
Thriller ‘Beats Being Dead’ won Special Achievement Fiction at the German Film Prize 2011 and a special award at Festival of German Films Ludwigshafen 2011.
Director Hendrik Handloegten’s drama/fantasy Summer Window was nominated in three categories for the German Film Award 2012: Supporting Actress, Cinematography and Original Score.
The comedy Men in the City 2 by Simon Verhoeven won Best Film National at the Bavarian Film Awards 2011.
