VietNamNet Bridge – Mr. Le Thai Son, a well-known painting collector in HCM City, died at his home on July 26, at the age of 44. Son left a collection of 500 paintings and projects to preserve Vietnam arts.
Son had a stroke near his house on the evening of July 26. His neighbors quickly discovered the incident but the collector passed away at his home. Son was a heart patient.
The collector was brought to his home town in Ninh Binh province for burying.
The collector’s death was a very bad news for the community of artists in HCM City. The news was quickly spread on the Internet and many people showed their mourning.
Son was born in 1968 and earned a bachelor of chemistry. He then became a businessman but he had a great passion for painting. He stopped doing business to pursue his passion for the last 15 years. He mainly collected sketches of wars and wartime paintings. He left around 500 artworks.
Son’s collection consists paintings by more than 100 Vietnamese painters, including Tran Van Can, Nguyen Hiem, Nguyen Cao Thuong, Hoang Tram, Van Tam, Do Dinh Hiep, Thai Tuan, Nguyen Tien Trung, Ta Thuc Binh of the past and contemporary artists like Phung Quoc Tri, Tran Hai Minh, Huynh Phu Ha, Nguyen Huy Khoi, Nguyen Quang Vinh and Le Kinh Tai.
He also researched and drew the war history by war-time sketches. Son’s collection of wartime sketches include works by famous names like Nguyen Duc Nung, Ta Thuc Binh, Mai Van Hien, Nguyen Kao Thuong, Luu Cong Nhan, Trong Kiem, etc.
Son’s collection consists of both art collection and art décor works. Son said that he earned his living by selling art décor products so he did not want to sell artworks. His only wish was preventing Vietnamese artworks from going overseas.
