Concert to mark 18th anniversary of HBSO
A concert to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will be held at the HCMC Opera House on September 9. Masterpieces by Brahms, Beethoven, Verdi and Shostakovich will be performed by Christian Schumann, one of the most well-known young conductors in Germany, accompanied by famous pianist Hinrich Alpers and HBSO. Pianist Hinrich Alpers has won many international music awards including the first prize at the 3rd International Telekom Beethoven Competition in Bonn, Germany. Alpers has performed in recitals, as soloist with orchestra, and as collaborator in chamber music and lieder throughout Europe, the United States and Canada. His performances are often recorded for radio and television broadcasts. He currently teaches piano at the University of Music and Drama of Hanover. Christian Schumann was born in Freiburg in 1983. He studied conducting and composition at the Franz Liszt Conservatory, graduating in 2007. Christian Schumann is considered one of Germany’s young shooting stars. He has already led such internationally renowned orchestras as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Tickets are priced at VND300,000, VND250,000, VND150,000 per person and VND60,000 for students. In addition, conductor Christian Schumann will give a performance at the Hanoi Opera House on September 27 with participation of pianist Luu Hong Quang and artists of the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Born in 1990, young Vietnamese pianist Luu Hong Quang was introduced to piano early. From 1996 to 2006 he studied at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. He is now a student of the Australia International Conservatorium of Music (AICM) after winning a full scholarship offered by AICM in November 2006. He has won many international awards, including the International Chopin Piano Competition in Sydney in 2009, Excellent Prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition held in Tokyo, the second prize at the Valtidone Piano International Competition in Italy in June 2008, and the first prize at the ‘Recital Award’ organized by the Sydney Eisteddfod in June and August 2008. This is the third time the German conductor appears as guest conductor with the Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra of the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Tickets are priced at VND500, 000, VND 350,000 and VND200,000.
