City’s Living Room
|
When I showed up to meet my buddy at the beautiful white house at the corner of Dong Du and Hai Ba Trung streets, she confessed that she was puzzled by my text: “Let’s have a cup of coffee at the Living Room, near Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers.”
We laughed a lot because of this misunderstanding. Well, the reason is my living room is in District 8 not the cafe and lounge downtown.
I have passed this cafe for months but this is the first time I have been here with my friend as the place has a luxury outlook on such a high-class street in District 1 which is full of foreigners and cars.
The Living Room, which was opened last year, has two spaces for guests to choose from. The ground floor is suitable for people who love to drink at a bar and talk loud with their friends on some high chairs while the first floor looks more romantic with many comfortable couches in black and ivory next to some stunning white tables in different shapes and materials.
This spacious area looks like the living room of a castle or at a celebrity’s house in Beverly Hills with its decorative items like a red lamb, high flower vases, book shelves, paintings, a huge glass window overlooking the street below and a black piano at the center of the room.
My friend and I chose a seat at the corner as all other places with good views were occupied by a group of businessmen and some foreign couples. But it didn’t matter as we enjoyed the best-ever cold dark chocolate drink and peaceful moment as we took in the ambience and admired soft sunlight reflecting into the room. The most annoying thing was somebody’s shisha smoke rising in the air that I firstly thought was from an electric circuit break.
For those who wish to have a peaceful moment for working or thinking, it is better to avoid the cafe at lunch time. Late afternoon from 3 p.m. onwards and night time with its cozy ambience are suitable for couples and groups of friends gathering after work.
Drinks and food (Western and Vietnamese style) which start from VND55,000 and VND90,000 respectively are really nice. The prices are exclusive of VAT and service charge. Especially, there’s a huge wine collection for guests to choose from.
The Living Room Cafe & Lounge is located at 40-42 Dong Du Street, District 1. There is also free motorbike parking for guests.
