The 2012 Culture, Sports and Tourism festival of the Cham ethnic minority group will take place from October 14th to 16th 2012 with the participation of nine provinces and cities.
The information was released at a press briefing on the event, held in Hanoi on August 16th by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The event will be organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the central Ninh Thuan provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The highlight of the festival will be the workshop on the preservation and development of Cham culture to be held on October 16th. The workshop will draw the participation of researchers of Cham culture, managers and Cham intellectuals to discuss the preservation and promotion of Cham cultural values and propose solutions to combine these goals with tourism development.
The festival will take place at Po Klongirai Tower, at a stadium in Huu Duc Commune in Huu Phuoc Ward, My Nghiep traditional brocade weaving village, and Bau Truc traditional pottery village. It will include a series of culture, sports and tourism activities such as art performances and showcasing Cham people’s traditional costumes, folk festivals and sport games.
The festival is also a chance to promote tourism destinations in the province. Neighbouring provinces and cities such as Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Quang Nam, Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh and An Giang will also participate in the event./.
