VietNamNet Bridge – Centaur Dance Showdown, an international, freestyle street dance tournament organized by Square Investment Joint Stock Co., was on Wednesday launched nationwide.
Vietnamese pop star to be judge of Singapore dancing contest
The tournament is organized in Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Thailand. In Vietnam, qualifying begins this month and ends in January, with five rounds in total - Primary, Qualifying, Top Area, Top Vietnam and International.
Singapore will host the International Final, where the best Centaur Crew of Vietnam will compete against the best crews from the five other nations.
In Centaur Dance Showdown, each crew has five members aged 18 and over, who will perform various styles of freestyle dance, such as Breaking, Popping and Locking.
For Primary rounds, participating crews will register through www.centaurdance.com and upload a video clip showcasing their best performance and techniques. For later rounds, however, the crews have to compete through Showcase and Bboy Battle performance with House music. The winning crews, decided by viewers’ votes (40%) and the jury (20% for the three jury members), will enter the next round.
The jury consists of singer Ho Ngoc Ha and choreographers Viet Max and Ha Le. The International Round also sees top Asian artist Jolin Tsai as a guest judge.
The total value of prizes is around US$20,000. The best Centaur Crew of Vietnam will net VND100 million, along with a five-day trip to Singapore for the International Final.
They will also receive one week’s training in HCMC under instruction of professional coaches. The best crew from the International Final will collect US$10,000.
