Can Farrell live up to Big Arnie in Total Recall remake?
|
Colin Farrell has certainly had a colorful life off-camera since making it in the film business. The Irish romeo has two sons to two different women, performed a fake marriage, had a sex phone worker stalker confront him on the Jay Leno show in the U.S., undertook a spell in rehab for painkillers and drug addiction and was also tarnished by a sex-tape scandal with a hot model.
Now despite Farrell being able to fight off the demons to become one of Hollywood’s hottest actors with appearances in Minority Report, his Grammy Award-winning In Bruges performance and huge hit Miami Vice, is he really going to topple Arnold Schwarzenegger in this Total Recall remake?
The Governator was at the height of his career when the original movie was a massive smash at the box office and the movie also catapulted Sharon Stone into the limelight.
Stepping into Arnie’s shoes is a tough ask and although the critics have been harsh, I always say make up your own mind about things folks.
Farrell is Douglas Quaid a factory worker who decides to sign up with Rekall a company that can turn your dreams into real memories despite the fact that he has a stunning wife (Kate Beckinsdale) whom he loves.
But the mind trip is too much temptation for Quaid who wants a break from his frustrating life and job to become a spy in a fictional world.
Lo and behold his trip goes drastically wrong and he begins life on the run as he is a wanted man with the cops controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston) on his tail night and day.
Quaid joins forces with rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) as they bid to find the leader of the underground army in (Bill Nighy) so they can stop Cohaagen.
If you are an action fan Director Len Wiseman comes into his own as he visualizes a new sci-fi universe with endless chases, twists, fight scenes and technology on show.
Total Recall is now available nationwide.
Also showing from this weekend around the country is The Lucky One, a romantic drama directed by Scott Hicks starring Zac Efron of High School Musical, 17 Again and Charlie St. Cloud in the lead role with Taylor Schilling, and Blythe Danner.
Logan Thibault (Efron) is a U.S. Marine serving his third tour of duty in Iraq, who survives a night raid in which two platoons are ambushed with numerous of his army buddies killed.
The next morning, he sees something on the ground and walks over to pick it up; it is of a woman, with the message ‘keep safe x’ written on the back. At that moment, a mortar attack destroys the area where he had been sitting before he saw the picture, killing those around him.
He thinks someone up there is looking out for him. The picture is puzzling him and he tried to find its owner, but gives up. A few days before he is set to return home to the U.S. Logan and a fellow squaddie are driving and discussing the picture which Logan believes is his guardian angel and a few moments later the vehicle is hit by a roadside bomb, and although his friend dies, Logan survives again.
He returns to Colorado to live with his sister and her family but he finds it difficult to adjust to normal life and takes his faithful dog to Louisiana to try and find out if his angel really exists.
