The festival this year saw competition among 16 buffaloes selected from qualifying rounds at ward and district levels. After 15 matches with impressive performances, fighting buffalo No. 25 of Mr. Le Van Duy from Van Son ward became the champion. Fighting buffalo No. 01 of Mr. Dang Van Huu from Minh Duc ward came in second, and fighting buffalo No. 11 of Mr. Luu Dinh Vo from Van Huong ward came in third. After the festival, both the winning and losing buffaloes are killed in a worship ceremony and their meat is divided to everybody. This year’s festival attracted over 30,000 local people and visitors to Do Son district. The traditional festival, held annually on the ninth day of the eighth lunar month, demonstrates the martial spirit of the people of Vietnam and is also a potential tourism draw./.
