The Vietnam Performing Arts Centre under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will coordinate with the British TNT Theatre to organize performances of the play ‘King Lear’, tragedy drama by William Shakespeare, in three major cities in Vietnam from October 24 to November 2.
The performances will take place at Ho Chi Minh City Opera Theatre at 11am and 8pm from October 25th to 27th, at Hanoi Opera Theatre at 11am on October 31st and at 8pm on October 31st, and at Trung Vuong Theatre in Da Nang city at 7pm on November 2nd.
The play is based on the legend of the Lair of Great Britain, a mythological pre-Roman Celtic king.
The play was written between 1603 and 1606 and later revised. Shakespeare's earlier version, ‘The True Chronicles of the History of the Life and Death of King Lear and His Three Daughters’, was published in quarto in 1608. The tragedy of ‘King Lear’, a more theatrical version, was included in the 1623 First Folio.
The play has been widely adapted for stage and motion pictures, and the role of King Lear has been coveted and played by many of the world's most accomplished actors./.
