(CPV) – Binh Thuan dragon fruit will be exported directly to the US market from August 20, then undergo radiation tests before being distributed in supermarkets, reported the Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit Association.
Currently, Vietnam’s fruits and vegetables must be tested with radiation before entering the US market, but dragon fruit has now been approved to be shipped to the market for radiation tests. This shows the market’s confidence in the Binh Thuan dragon fruit trademark. Before Vietnam, two other Asian countries, India and Thailand, were permitted to export fruit to the US before testing with radiation.
Binh Thuan Province now has 5,300 hectares of dragon fruit licensed to meet VietGAP (Vietnamese Good Agriculture Practices) standard, reported the Deputy Director of the Binh Thuan Agriculture and Rural Development Department. Moreover, the province possesses nearly 160 hectares of dragon fruit meeting GlobalGAP (Global Good Agriculture Practices) standard.
In the end of 2011, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) recognised the fruit brand “Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit”./.
