Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed Bounhang Volachith and his delegation at celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of Viet Nam-Laos diplomatic ties and the 35 years since the signing of a Friendship and Co-operation Treaty between both countries.
He said the visit was a vivid manifestation of the special solidarity between the two countries, adding that in any circumstances, Viet Nam would spare no effort to foster this solidarity in the interests of each country and its people – and for peace, stability, co-operation and development in the region and the world.
Volachith said Laos would work closely with Viet Nam to implement all agreements between senior leaders of both Parties and States.
President Truong Tan Sang said both sides would continue to maintain exchanges of delegations at all levels to tighten friendship and mutual confidence, particularly in the 2012 Viet Nam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year.

On economic co-operation, the Vice President said he wanted two-way trade to reach US$2 billion by 2015.

Praising the success of the recent official trip to Laos by Chairman Hung, Vice President Volachith said the visit was a milestone in the history of special ties.
The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung told Volachith that the Viet Nam-Laos traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive co-operation were invaluable treasures that should be promoted.
He urged both sides to increase high-level visits and contacts and boost co-operation in all areas.
Volachith said Laos would continue to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to conduct business in Laos.
Grand meeting
Yesterday, a grand meeting was held in Ha Noi to mark the 50th anniversary of Viet Nam-Laos diplomatic ties and the 35 years since the signing of a Friendship and Co-operation Treaty between both countries.
The meeting began with a concert that included songs in praise of President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane and the solidarity and friendship between Viet Nam and Laos.
Addressing the event, Party General Secratary Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted the time-honoured close relationship between the two neighbouring countries.
He said the friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive co-operation have become an invaluable asset for both nations and an extremely important factor ensuring the success of the revolution in both countries.
He added that the relationship had been fostered by the sweat, blood and tears of many generations of Vietnamese and Lao revolutionaries.
Trong said more than ever, both Parties, States and peoples should continue to consolidate and strengthen the special solidarity.
Volachith replied that the Lao Party, State and people would do their utmost to preserve and protect the special friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
Despite all the changes in a fast changing world, the close relationship between Viet Nam and Laos would be promoted forever and passed down from generation to generation, he said.
A celebration was also held in the central city of Da Nang yesterday to mark the event.
The secretary of the city's Party Committee, Nguyen Ba Thanh, described friendship ties between Laos and Viet Nam as a "typical sample of solidarity in the world".
In recent years, the central coastal city has given priority to training 500 Lao students for the development of human resources.
Thanh said the city and provinces in Laos had signed 24 agreements covering projects in education, agriculture, transport and sports.
Four companies from Da Nang City have invested US$51.4 million in projects of textile and minerals exploitation in Laos.
The city also opened a new flight route linking Pakse-Savannakhet-Da Nang in April.
Viet Nam invested US$3.45 million in 214 projects in Laos in the first six months of this year, including hydro-power plants, rubber plantations and projects related to mining and energy.
Vientiane celebrates
Yesterday, similar celebrations were also held in Vientiane.
Top Lao leaders, including Party General Secretary and State President Chummaly Sayasone, Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, National Assembly Chairwoman Pany Yathotou attended the event.
The Vietnamese delegation was led by Politburo member and permanent member of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee Secretariat Le Hong Anh.
In his speech, Party General Secretary and State President Chummaly Sayasone said the event is a vivid manifestation of the great, close and traditional friendship between the two countries.
The Lao Party, State and people are proud that they have done all their best to make their contribution to the common victory of the struggle for national liberation and unification of both countries, said the Lao leader.
Despite the complicated developments in the region and the world, the Viet Nam-Laos traditional relations have been nurtured, consolidated and unceasingly developed with higher quality and effectiveness, he added.
